Kangshung Valley is one of the beautiful trekking region in Tibet, located in south western part of Tibet near the border between Nepal, Sikkim (India) and Tibet (autonomous region of China). Kangshung valley known as Kharta or green valley of Tibet.
Kangshung Valley trek offers the most magnificent and a spectacular view of Mt. Everest 8848.86m. Makalu 8,475m. Lhotse 8,516m. Kanchanjunga 8,586m. Cho Oyu 8,188m. Sisapangma 8,013m. and many Himalayan peaks in Tibet. There are several beautiful forests, green valleys with many small lakes, Yaks pasture land, and local Tibetan nomad camps.
The age doesn’t make any difference for this trek, age between 17 to 70 years, anyone can do this trip if you are physically fit and healthy. If someone is seriously injured or sick, only the option is rescued by a jeep. The rescue is quite expensive, everyone needs to buy travel insurance from their own country.
This trip will start, from Lhasa Gonggar airport, Sightseeing at different monasteries and towns in Tibet as an itinerary. Trek will start from Kharta
Chu village, ending at Zha Rongbuck. After Rongbuck drives to Kerung Nepal / Tibet border to Kathmandu, Nepal. Our Lhasa agent will provide comfortable tourist standard Jeeps for trekkers and trucks for luggage and staff.
After Sakya, there are not any Guest houses or hotels. We will provide two man sharing double tent or single supplement tents with double mattress, dining tent with table and stools, kitchen tent with kitchen utensils, toilet tent, shower tent, an experienced Tibetan trekking guide, cook, Yak porters, meals (breakfast + lunch + dinner) and hot drinks. We suggest every trekker bring their own down sleeping bag -20C. as your size with liner.

Upon your arrival at Lhasa, Gongkar airport our Tibetan guide will welcome you with Tibetan tradition Khatak. Lunch at Gongkar, after lunch 47 km. drive to Lhasa city, stars hotel as your booking. Welcome drinks at the reception check in the room. After a short rest visit centre Lhasa, Bhakor street and around Potala palace. Buffet dinner at your hotel’s restaurant your tour guide will brief you about tours, trekking and other necessary information about Tibet.
After breakfast at hotel, visit Tibet’s most sacred Jokang monastery, located at the heart of the ancient town of Lhasa, it was built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo’s queen Bhrikuti princess of Nepal. The monastery is 3 stories high, inside the monastery at the ground floor you can see the most sacred beautiful golden statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. At this monastery there are around 70 monks nowadays.
After Jhokang walked to visit another sacred Ramuche Cho. Lunch near Potala palace. After lunch visit Potala palace; the palace was built by king Songtsen Gampo 637 B. C. after rebuilding by 5th Dalai lama in the 17th century. The palace is 130 m. above Lhasa city. The palace builds by three meters thick stones walls, 13 floors more than 1000 different rooms with two different colours. The White Palace mainly used for government administration, the Red palace was mainly used for religious functions and still has numerous chapels, including those containing reliquary stupas of the successive Dalai Lamas which are richly decorated in gold, silver and semi-precious stones. Today you can visit Potala palace as a state museum. Paying the enter ticket, every tourist and pilgrimage can visit as official time, the palace will close Sunday and government holidays at Tibet.
Afternoon sightseeing at ancient Bhakor street market. Dinner at Tibetan restaurant at Bhakor, back to the same hotel.
After breakfast 7 km. drive to Drepung monastery which will take you about 15 minutes. Drepung is the largest monastery in Tibet, built in the 15th century by Jamyang Choeje, one of Tsongkapa’s disciple. The monastery located up in a hill. There are four main colleges with numerous small chapels and house chapels, known as Khangtsen in Tibetan. Nowadays there are around six hundred monks at this monastery. Near Drepung there is a sacred Neachung Lhamu monastery which you can visit as same time.
After visiting Drepung, back to Norbu Linka summer palace. Norbu Linka is the first summer Palace which was founded by the 7th Dalai Lama in the 18th century. Nowadays there are few monks who look after the summer palace. Lunch at Norbulingka.
After visiting Norbulingka summer palace drive to sera monastery. Sera monastery was founded in the 15th century by Jamchen Choeje who is another famous disciple of Tsongka pa, which is the second largest monastery of Tibet. There are three colleges with numerous chapels and house chapels. The most attraction to visit this monastery is to see the monks debating which holds from 3:00 to 5:00 Pm. Monday to Saturday.
After visiting Sera monastery and monk’s debating at Sera drive back to the hotel, buffet dinner at the hotel's restaurant.
After breakfast at your hotel, about 60 km. drive along the Lhasa kichu river, pass through beautiful Tibetan villages to Gaden monastery at the mountain. Ganden is the six biggest Gelukpa monasteries and it is the mother monastery of the Yellow hat school. Where you can see the golden seat of Dalai lamas. From Ganden you can see beautiful views of the valley and mountains.
After visiting Ganden monastery, drive back to Tsurphu H.H. Karmapa’s monastery which is 70 km away from Lhasa. Lunch at Ganden or Tsurphu your guide will decide and inform you. The 1st Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa founded the Tsurphu Monastery in 1189, which became the main residence of the Karma Kagyu school. The Buddha statue inside Tsurphu monastery is the largest one-piece statue in Tibet.
After visiting Tsurphu monastery drive to Yamdrok lake with is 207 km from Lhasa. You will drive through high passes Kamba la, Karo la and Simila la. You can see beautiful holy lake Yamdork Tso, which is known as Turquois Lake in Tibet. For overnight accommodation at Yamdrok Tso. Buffet dinner at Tibetain restaurant.
After breakfast check out the room, drive about 90 km. Gyantse stop for tea, visit Palkhor monastery and Kubum Stupa. Which is built in 15th century by Rabten Kunsang and first Penchen Lama. Gyantse town, which is the nearest border (Nathula pass) with India Sikkim.
After visit the monastery and stupa drive about 90 km. to Shigatse, which is the second largest city at Tibet, the home of H.H. Banchen Lama. En- route visit Shalu monstery if you are interested. Overnight accommodation at stars hotel with bed, breakfast and dinner as your booking. Check in room after short rest visit Tashilumpo monastery the seat of Benchen Lama. Tashilonpo Monastery which was built in 1447 by first Dalai Lama. After visit the monastery back to hotel for buffet dinner.
After breakfast at hotel, check out the room, drive about 127 km. from Shigatse to Sakya monastery via Lhatse, this is the main monastery of H.H. Sakya Trizin Rimpoche (now days at Dheradoon Utter Khanda, India). The monastery which is very famous and old monastery at this region. There are a lot of historical articles in the monastery, among them are found a lot of the imperial certificates, gold signets, crowns, over 10,000 volumes of Tibetan books on astronomy, medicine, calligraphy, and history. Inside the monastery you can see several old Buddhist texts, huge juniper tree’s pillars and many other.
After lunch at Sakya, start your mountain tour above 5,000m. passes Gyatso La and Pang La. Follow the main road to Tashizom village from Tashizom turn left side drive toward Kartha Chu village for overnight first tented camp at Yulok.
After breakfast at camp, you will start your first day trek, walk sloppy way up the landscape from today is turning into a greener and mountain region. Today you can see the birthplace of the first climber of Mt Everest Sherpa Tenzing Norgay’s village on the other side of the river. Overnight tented camp at Dhampu about 3 to 4 hours only.
After breakfast at camp, start your trek and enjoy the beauty of the landscape of snow-capped mountains, green grassland. Today you will see a far view of Mt Makalu, 8,475m. Trek through Shao la pass. You can see a small beautiful Shao Tso. Overnight tented camp at Methok Sechen 4 to 5 hours trek.
After breakfast at camp, start your trek through the dense forest and beautiful meadows where you can see a group of nomads with their typical Tibetan nomadic tents. This is one of the famous densely forested Karma valleys in this region. Overnight tented camp at Thangsum. From the campsite, you can see a spectacular view of Makalu, Everest and Lhotse. 5 to 6 hours trek.
After breakfast at camp, you will enjoy the most beautiful campsite and beautiful panoramic view of above 8,000m. peaks. After lunch at the camp trek down to Pethang Ringmo for an overnight tented camp 3 to 4 hours trek.
After breakfast at camp, an easy trek is close to the giant Himalaya. From Pethang Ringmo you can see a very close view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Makalu as well. You can see the view of Everest east Base camp full of Glaciers.
After breakfast at camp, explore Pethang Ringmo and enjoy Everest east base camp and glaciers. After a panoramic view back to the same camp site and just relax.
Today will be a beautiful day for all. After breakfast at the camp trek to Shurima. On the way you can get the view of Khartapuri Mountain with beautiful glaciers as well as Everest and Lhotse. Overnight tented camp at Shurima 4 to 5 hours trek.
After breakfast at camp, start your trek as usual across the highest pass, Langma La 5,250m. From Langma La Pass, you can see the view of Lhotse and Everest. After the pass, you will see a small lake called Da nyen, after pass descent to Kharta village onward Yulok and their fields where they can grow barley only. After Yulok drive about 110 km. to Rongbuk monastery. Zha Rongbuk monastery is the highest elevation’s monastery in the world. 5 to 6 hours trek.
After breakfast, check out the guest house, drive from Rongbuck to Kerung about 260 km. After the old Tingri follows the friendship highway pass through Piku Tso. Today you will see a spectacular view of Sisapangma and many Himalayan peaks. After lunch at PikuTso, drive to Kerung town, check in the hotel as your booking. After breakfast, check out the room, drive 27km. to the border. Check out Tibet visa and custom at Chinese post, cross the friendship bridge. Vehicle and our representative waiting for you, drive to Nepal post, check Nepalese visa and custom. After lunch at the border 150km. drive to Kathmandu stars hotel as your booking, welcome drinks at the reception check in the room. Dinner as you choose at any restaurant. After breakfast, the city guide will pick up at the hotel, a short drive to Swyambhu nath, which is the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world, built 2,500 years ago. Visit around the stupa, offering butter lamps, from Swayambhu you can see a very clear view of Kathmandu valley. Drive to Bhoudha, the biggest Buddhist stupa in the world, built the late 15th or early 16th century. Around Bhoudha there are several Buddhist monasteries. Visit around the stupa and different monasteries. After lunch drive back to Kathmandu Durbar Square for sightseeing, visit different Buddhist and Hindu temples, walk to the Thamel tourist market. Evening our representative will take you for a farewell Nepali typical dinner with a culture program. After dinner back to the hotel. Complete the trip.
