Lumba-Sumba is one of the adventure trekking regions at eastern Nepal, between above 8,000m. peaks Kanchenjunga and Makalu. Only the camping (arrangement) trek is possible for a short period. During the summer season it is a danger of landslides everywhere, while in winter heavy snowfall which makes it difficult to cross the pass. Even it is difficult to cross the pass in spring because of the winter’s snow.
If someone is seriously injured or sick, only the option is rescued by a Helicopter if the weather is good. The rescue is quite expensive, everyone needs to buy travel insurance from their own country. If not, available we will help. You can buy such insurance policies in Kathmandu too. For communication we will provide satellite phone sets with enough balance.
The age doesn’t make any difference for this trek, age between 17 to 70 years, anyone can do this trip if you are physically fit and healthy. From my experience since 1987 trekking at different regions of Nepal, Lumba Sumba is one of the best trekking in my lifetime for the unforgettable Himalayan views.
The trek begins from Taplejung Bazaar or airport, following Kanchenjunga south base camp trail to Sekarthum. After Sekarthum following Tamor river to Olangchung Gola village. Olangchung is the last village for this trek.
After Lumba Sumba pass, descend to Thudam a very remote village there are 26 old wooden houses and only few families. I been there 2013 Autumn. Trek continues through Chamthang village, to Hatiya, the trek end at Num, drive to Tumlingtar airport.
For this trek we provide two man sharing double tent or single supplement tent with double mattress, dining tent with table and stools, kitchen tent with kitchen utensils, toilet tent, shower tent, staff and porter’s tent, an experienced trekking guide, cook, Kitchen boys, Sherpa helper, human porters, meals (breakfast + lunch + dinner) hot drinks and First Aid kits.
We will inform you all the details about this trek, before starting from Kathmandu. Trekking guide will inform you all the details each day’s trekking route and camp site in this region. We suggest every trekker bring their own down sleeping bag -20C. as your size with liner.

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport, our representative will welcome you with flowers, drive to stars hotel as your booking, welcome drinks at reception check in room. Dinner at your hotel’s restaurant our tour manager will brief you about trekking and other necessary information.
After lunch, your guide will pick you up at the hotel, afternoon flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar, a hotel's vehicle waiting for you at Biratnagar airport. Short drive to the hotel welcome drinks at the reception check in the room. Nepali set dinner at the hotel's restaurant.
After breakfast, a short drive to the airport about 30 minutes morning flight Biratnagar to Taplejung Suketar airport. Lunch at Suketar, meet with trekking staff, after lunch start your first day an easy trek to Phurumbu for overnight tented camp. 3 to 4 hours trek.
After breakfast, an easy trek pass through several small village lunch stop on the way, trek continues to Chhiruwa for overnight tented camp. Beautiful campsite at the bank of Tamur river far from the village. 5 to 6 hours trek.
After breakfast, follow the Tamor river, cross several bridges lunch at Tapelethok. After lunch trek continues to Lelep village for overnight tented camp. Beautiful campsite with nice views. 5 to 6 hours trek
After breakfast, an easy trek through Gowatar to a small waterfall, ascend to Illa Danda for lunch and camp together. Illa to another campsite is a far, beautiful campsite with views. 3 to 4 hours trek.
After breakfast, trek through bamboo bushes cross bridge at Tamor khola, lunch at Ram-Shyam pati, trek continues through jungle very narrow trail and difficult too, overnight tented camp at Selap kharka. 6 to 7 hours trek.
After breakfast, trek through Jongin kharka cross suspension bridge stop for lunch, gradually climb through landslide to Olangchung Gola village for overnight tented camp. 5 to 6 hours trek.
Now you are above 3,000m. you need to rest for high acclimatization. After breakfast visit the old village and monastery, back to camp for lunch. Day time, take a hot shower and just relax. This is the last village until Chyamthang, the guide will arrange a daily supply for porters and staff.
After breakfast, trek follows Tamor river, crosses the bridge stop for lunch, trek continues to Langmale kharka. 5 to 6 hours trek.
After breakfast trek through Dingsamba khola, gradually climb to Yangetar, lunch at Thangchen kharka trek continue to valley, turn left side climb to high pass camp at snow, there is a small beautiful lake, with view of Kanchenjunga, Jannu and many Himalayan peaks. 6 to 7 hours trek.
Today you have to take a packed lunch (picnic) with hot tea or juice. Early morning after breakfast with sunrise views, gradually ascend to Lumba Sumba pass (5,177m.) from pass you can see a spectacular Himalayan view face to face Kanchanjung, Jannu, Kirat chuli, Khambachen, Yalungkhang, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse and many Himalayan peaks. After panora views and Packed lunch at pass, descend to Lapsi khola valley for overnight tented camp. Very beautiful campsite, and view of Makalu. 7 to 8 hours.
After breakfast, follow Lapsi khola descend to Samne kharka for lunch, trek continue to Thadum village for overnight camp. There is another trekking route from Thudam to Jaljala Himal, Milke danda. 5 to 6 hours trek.
After breakfast, trek through bamboo bushes and jungle, a very narrow and difficult trail stop for packed lunch at a small pass, you can see the next village Chamthang from this place. Trek continues through Jijibuk to Chinjum kharka for overnight camp. 7 to 8 hours.
After breakfast, trek through the jungle cross small hill steep descent to Arun river for lunch, after lunch climb to Chamthang village continue to Lingam for overnight camp. Kima Thang is the last village at the Tibet border in this region. 6 to 7 hours trek.
After breakfast, trek through Gimbar village cross suspension bridge at Hangdak khola, lunch on the way overnight tented camp at Hatiya Gola. 6 to 7 hours trek. From Hangdak there is another route for Makalu base camp.
After breakfast, trek along the Arun river, cross Barun river suspension bridge lunch at Gola village, trek continue to climb to Pathibara for overnight camp. 6 to 7 hours trek.
After breakfast, an easy trek to Sima village, Hedangna Gadi, descend to Arun Dovan for lunch, after lunch gradually climb about one and half hours to Num village, from Num take reserve jeeps drive to Tumlingtar airport for overnight accommodation at Hotel. 7 to 8 hours trek.
After dinner Tips for trekking staff, trek successful gathering parties with staff and team members. Tomorrow the early morning crew will drive back to Kathmandu. Complete the trek.
After breakfast, about 45 minutes flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu with your guide. At Kathmandu airport vehicle waiting for you, drive to the hotel, welcome drinks at the reception check in the room. Lunch and dinner as you choose any restaurant.
After breakfast, the city guide will pick you up at hotel, short drive to Swyambhu nath, which is oldest Buddhist stupa in the world, build 2,500 years ago. Visit around the stupa, offering the butter lamps, from Swayambhu you can see a very clear view of Kathmandu valley. Drive to Bhoudha, biggest Buddhist stupa in the world, build late 15th or early 16th century. Around Bhouda there are several Buddhist monasteries. Visit around the stupa and different monasteries. After lunch drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square for sightseeing, from Durbar square walk to Thamel tourist market sightseeing. Evening our representative will take you for a farewell Nepali typical dinner with a culture program. After dinner back to the hotel.
After breakfast or lunch, our representative will drive before three hours your flight time to airport flight back to your destination. Complete the trip.
