14 days 2027 Dumji festival at Namche:

Dear all trekkers,

Tashi Delak! welcome, to Duji festival at Namche Bazaar, Mt. Everest Khumbu region at Nepal.

About Dumji festival at Namche: Dumji celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). It was started over 360 years ago by Lama Sangwa Dorje to unite the Sherpa people and protect the high-altitude villages from negative spirits.

The "Lawa" Tradition: The villagers and relatives gather, this is because of the Lawa (Host) system. Every year, 8 local families in Namche take turns to pay for and organize the entire festival. It is a massive financial and social duty that only happens to a family once or twice in a lifetime.

Celander: June 29th July to 1st August 2026 for three days.

Your Experience from Dumji festival:
The Masked Dances (Cham): Performed by monks from Tengboche Monastery who travel down to Namche specifically for this event.

The "Chhyang" Rituals: As you noted about relatives gathering, this is the time for the traditional Sherpa beer (Chhyang). It is served in shared cups as a sign of clan unity.

The Blessing: On the final day, the Rinpoche gives a personal blessing to every person in the crowd—including your guests.

The Green Khumbu: Because it is June, the landscape is not brown and dry; it is lush, green, and filled with wildflowers. This is a side of Everest that few tourists ever see.
