18 days Around Dhaulagiri:

Dear all trekkers,
Namaste! Welcome, for an adventure tented camping trek at Dhaulagiri circuit.

Dhaulagiri (alt. 8,167 m.) sixth highest peak in the world, Dhaulagiri circuit trek is one of the adventure trekking region, known as Hidden valley at Nepal, which is  situated between Kali Gandaki and Magdi rivers at west Nepal.
This trek will start from Darbang Bazaar (alt. 1,180m.) after the motor road, in near future motor road will be complete until Baghara village which is the last village trek to Dhaulagiri. Between Darbang to Marpha (Jomsom) there are not any facilities for the daily meals and accommodation, only the option is tented camping trek. There are some tea houses between Darbang Bazaar to Itaian base camp, which helpful for the porters and local people. After Baghara follow the Myagdi river, cross several times some place without bridge until Dhaulagiri base camp. From Dhampus pass descends Yak kharka (Batasea) to Kali Gandaki valley, trek ending at Marpha village.

Before start the trek at Hidden valley, you need to check the weather twice. If the weather changes or heavy snow fall better you have to wait, at Hidden valley it may be difficult to cross Dhampus pass or back to France pass. During the trek you can cross two high passes above 5,000m. 

1. French pass (alt. 5,360m.)  

2. Dhampus pass (alt. 5,258m.)  

High altitude sickness and solution: High-altitude sickness occurs when your body can’t get enough oxygen because the lower air pressure at higher elevation above 3,000m. when you ascend too quickly during the trek. At High elevation anyone at any time can be suffering from high-altitude sickness which is common, you don’t have to be nervous but please be attention. 

If you feel symptoms of high – altitude (Headache, vomiting, loss your appetite, Dizziness and trouble falling asleep) stop to ascending immediately descend as soon as possible. Eat enough garlic soup, take lots of hot drinks and rest. Next day you will feel better, if not your guide will look for another solution. If you are really serious, we will arrange a rescue helicopter flight from Pokhara, within a couple of hours to save 100% your life. 

Communication: If some one seriously sick or injured, you have to call at Kathmandu for rescue helicopter. At around Dhaulagiri region, mobile network service is not available for calling. We will send satellite phone set with enough balance extra battery and solar charger for emergency call and service.

Himalayan views: This is one of the best trekking area at west Nepal. During the trekking period you can see above 8,000m.peaks are Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu. From Dhampus pass you can see spectacular view of Dhaulagiri range, Annapurna range, Mustang Kaligandaki valley and Tibet border peaks. 📅 Trekking Season and Weather:

Autumn Season (September - November) one of the spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains and high Himalaya. Perfect temperatures for trekking, making days enjoyable.
 
Spring Season (March - May) Spectacular clear views. The stable weather brings excellent visibility. Above 3,000m, beautiful landscape with Himalayan rhododendrons and various wildflowers in full blossom.
 
Winter Season (December to February) In the winter season it is not possible to complete the Hidden valley Dhaulagiri circuit. But clear skies at low elevations, the air is clean and visibility is excellent. Temperatures drop significantly in the morning and night.

Summer Season (June - August) High rainfall and lush greenery (if you don't mind the rain). Generally, not suitable for trekking. Heavy raining, poor visibility, landslides, and high river levels that may block trekking trails and motor roads.

🍽️ Practical Detail and Trekking Services:

Hotel accommodation at Kathmandu: During your stay at Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will stay at 3-star hotel, twin sharing basis room with bed and breakfast services. 

Restaurant and Daily meals: At Kathmandu and P{okhara, there are several restaurants where you can get Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, Nepalese and Continental dishes in veg. or non veg. different kinds of sweet dishes, hot or cold drinks available.

Trekking crew (Nepali staff): Without an experience trekking guide and trekking staff (cook, Sherpa helpers, kitchen boys and porters) any adventure trek is not possible. During the trek, guide and Sherpa helpers will set up all tents, porters will carry all your heavy luggage. Trekking cook and kitchen staff prepare fresh, hot, and delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day for your service. Our entire Nepalese staff team works together even at elevations above 5,000 m. without hesitate.

Daily activities and meals during the trek: Early in the morning, Sherpa and kitchen staff will bring a hot drink (coffee or tea) at your tent, followed by a bowl of warm washing water to freshen up. You can pack up your duffle bag for upcoming journey and join for the breakfast which will be served warm and fresh at the table with scenic panorama of mountains.

In day time, you can stroll around peacefully, take scenic pictures and visit local villages, monasteries or schools with your guide and Sherpas. Fresh and warm lunch with hot drinks will be serve between 11:00 to 13:00 after lunch rest about one hours, than continue the trek.

In the afternoon at the camp, your tent will be set up, and your mattress and luggage will be brought inside the tent. The kitchen staff will bring warm or cold water to clean your face and hands. After freshening up, you can relax in the dining tent with hot drinks, biscuits, and cheese. You will have plenty of time to rest before dinner. Each day cook will prefer fresh buffet dinner, beginning with soup, minimum five cuisine with hot drinks. At dinner time, your guide will ask about the day's trek and explain the program for the next morning.

Please Note:  At high elevation it takes time to prepare hot and fresh lunch, to save the time we provide pack lunch (picnic) with hot juice and tea. 

Flight and Transportation:  For this trek, we provide privet vehicle from Kathmandu - Pokhara to Darbang Bazar. End of this  this trek flight from Jomsom / Pokhara / Kathmandu. For the details please visit daily itinerary at the end of this page.

Trekking equipment and accommodation: For this high elevation trek, you need warm equipment and sleeping bag. If you don’t have such, you can hire or buy at Kathmandu as your size. For the tented camping trek, we provide two man sharing double tents or single supplement high altitude tents with double (Foam + waterproof) mattresses, dining tent with folding table and stools, kitchen tent with kitchen utensils, toilet tent, shower tent, staff and porter’s tent. High altitude equipment for the staff and porters. 

Trekking equipment check list: Trekking boots, light shoes / trainers, down or fibre pile jacket, fleece or sweater, shirts (x 2), long and short trekking trousers (and /or long skirt for women), windproof jacket & trouser, waterproof poncho, sun hat, woollen cap, gloves, woollen socks (x 3), underwear.

Other essential items: Kitbag and padlock, small rucksack, down sleeping bag (4 seasons +) with inner liner, water bottle (1 litre capacity), head torch, personal first aid, sun and snow glasses/goggles, sun cream (factor 15+) & lip slave, towel & wash kit, whistle, passport, passport-size photographs, plastic bags, money belt.

Optional: Camera (with high-capacity memory cards and extra batteries), trekking poles / walking sticks, binoculars, notebook, pen etc.

Daily Itinerary

Warm Welcome: Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport, Our representative will meet you at the airport terminal with a personalized sign, handling your luggage, welcome you with colourful flowers, drive to star hotel as your booking. Upon arrival at your hotel, you will be served a refreshing welcome drink at reception while our team assists with your check-in.

First Evening & Briefing: In the evening, you can enjoy dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant. During this time, our Tour Manager will conduct a comprehensive briefing, covering your trekking itinerary, safety protocols, and any other essential information for your upcoming adventure.

  3-star hotel as your booking at Kathmandu.

Kathmandu is a major centre for culture and heritage, home to several Buddhist stupas and Hindu temples. If you are interested, you can spend the day after breakfast visiting various sites across Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan.

While you can hire a taxi for longer distances, you can enjoy a rickshaw (three-wheel bicycle) ride or simply walk within the Kathmandu city centre. Please note that most sites require an entry fee.

In Thamel, the main tourist hub, you will find many shops selling trekking equipment and souvenirs. Keep in mind that the Nepalese market is quite different from Western ones—always remember to ask for a discount! For lunch and dinner, there are many high-quality restaurants offering diverse menus for every appetite.

After breakfast, beginning your first day's trek, cross the bridge, gradual climb to Dharapani for lunch, easy trek to Sibang school for overnight tented camp.

After breakfast, easy trek through fields, descend to Dara for lunch, trek continue overnight tented camp at Muri School.

After breakfast, descend to juga pani for lunch, trek through rock cliff trail, overnight tented camp at Baghara village.  Baghara is the last village for Dhaulagiri base camp, after this village there are only seasonal tea houses until Italian base camp,

Baghara is the last village to Dhaulagiri base camp, after breakfast, trek through jungle, cross several small rivers and landslides, lunch stop at Lapche kharka, overnight tented camp at Dhoban.

After breakfast, trek through jungle lunch stop at Chauri Bhan, gradual climb to Italy base camp. Good campsite with beautiful views.

Rest for high acclimatization, now you are above 3,500m. you will fill very dry and thin air, walk around or climb as you can. Day time take a hot shower, just relax at camp.

 After breakfast, trek through landslide, cross the river often some time without bridge, packed lunch (picnic) with hot tea and juice, overnight camp at Glacier.   

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, trek through the glacier there is no fixed trail, the glacier route always changes, packed lunch on the way overnight camp at Dhaulagiri base camp.

After breakfast, gradually climb through the ridge up to French pass (5,360m.) From the pass you can see a spectacular view of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche peak, Dhampus peak and glacier. Pack lunch at pass if not windy, after pass easy but long trek to Hidden valley for overnight tented camp. The camping place is very beautiful with Himalayan views.  

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 7 to 9 hours.

After breakfast, ascend to Dhampus pass (5,258m.) from pass you can see unbelievable a spectacular view of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Dhampus, Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna range, border peaks and Kali Gandaki valley. After pack lunch steep descend to Yak kharka / Batase Danda for overnight camp.    

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, very steep down, descend to Marpha village for lunch. 
After lunch Tips for trekking staff, they will drive back to Kathmandu. Trekking guide and team members drive to Jomsom airport, overnight hotel accommodation at Jomsom.    Complete the trek.

After breakfast, about 20 minutes morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara with guide, hotel’s vehicle waiting for you at Pokhara airport, drive to stars hotel as your booking, welcome drinks at the reception check in room, lunch and dinner as you choose at any restaurant.

Free Day in Pokhara (Relaxation & Discovery): Today is a flexible day for you to enjoy the charm of Pokhara at your own pace. After the mountains trek from Ghorapani Poon-Hill, you can choose how to spend your time:

Option 1: Pure Relaxation - Late Breakfast: Sleep in and enjoy a slow breakfast at a lakeside café.

  • Spa & Massage: Treat your tired muscles to a traditional Ayurvedic massage or a deep-tissue trekking recovery session at one of the many high-quality spas.
  • Lakeside Stroll: Wander through the colorful shops, bookstores, and handicraft boutiques along the shore of Phewa Lake.

Option 2: Light Exploration-Boating on Phewa Lake: Rent a colorful wooden boat (Doonga) and row out to the Tal Barahi Temple, located on a peaceful island in the center of the lake.

  • World Peace Pagoda: Take a short boat ride across the lake followed by a gentle 45-minute hike up to the massive white stupa for a panoramic view of the city and the mountains you just climbed.
  • International Mountain Museum: Visit this fascinating museum to learn more about the history of Himalayan climbing and the local mountain cultures.

Option 3: The Annapurna Cable Car Experience: Take a smooth, 7-minute ride on the modern Annapurna Cable Car. This scenic journey glides above the lush hills, whisking you quickly from the lakeside area up to the Sarangkot Viewpoint.

  • Panoramic Views: From the observation tower at the top, you will be treated to a spectacular, 360-degree view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, as well as Mount Manaslu and several other towering Himalayan peaks from a unique perspective.
  • Dining with a View: You can choose to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the hilltop restaurant, surrounded by one of the most beautiful mountain panoramas in the world.

Morning Departure: After your final breakfast in Pokhara, you will begin the drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus.

  • The Journey: Travel by comfortable tourist bus for the 200 km journey. The route follows the scenic Trisuli River, offering views of terraced fields and rural Nepali life.
  • Lunch: A scheduled stop for lunch at a riverside restaurant along the highway.

Arrival & Welcome: Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink at the reception during the check-in process.

  • Evening: The evening is yours to enjoy. You may choose  any of the city's many excellent restaurants for your night after trek in Nepal.
