Dear all trekkers,
Namaste! Welcome, for an adventure tented camping trek at Makalu to Khumbu region, Sherpani Col.

Makalu Sherpani col, without any doubt we can say, it is a mini expedition. The main adventure and technical trekking route will separate after Makalu base camp. For this trek you need well acclimatized an experience about Alp or Himalayan peaks climbing. During the trek you need to cross three different high passes (Col) several glaciers and icefalls in the trekking route. All the team members, Nepali staff and porters, each person needs to be physically fit and healthy.

Between Makalu base camp to Chhukung Khumbu valley, there are not any human settlement, which takes six days trek.  During the trekking period weather is most important, if the weather become change, you have to wait for good weather or back, between Makalu base camp to Chhukung (Khumbu) is completely hidden area.  

For this trek most important is an experienced climbing guide (who been before) who know the trekking route, honest or strong kitchen staffs, strong human porters, good equipment for all Nepali staff and porters, enough gas and food supply for the team. 

For this adventure trek, from starting to Chhukung Khumbu valley, we will provide tented camping service. After Chhukung at Khumbu region, we provide lodging trek service for your experience. Lodging accommodation is less expensive than tented camping trek at Khumbu region. 

As our itinerary this trek will start from Num Bazar (alt. 1,509m.), until Makalu base camp the trekking routes not so difficult but you need to cross small passes. Until Makalu base camp you will be completely acclimatized and fit for Sherpani Col. The highest pass Sherpani Col is 6,813 m. camping at glacier above 5,000m. For more detail information and elevation, you can look daily itinerary below. During this trek you will trek pass through Makalu Barun conservation area and Sagarmatha national park, where you can see very closely, different wild animals and birds.

High altitude sickness and solution: High-altitude sickness occurs when your body can’t get enough oxygen because the lower air pressure at higher elevation above 3,000m. when you ascend too quickly during the trek. At High elevation anyone at any time can be suffering from high-altitude sickness which is common, you don’t have to be nervous but please be attention. 

If you feel symptoms of high – altitude (Headache, vomiting, loss your appetite, Dizziness and trouble falling asleep) stop to ascending immediately descend as soon as possible. Eat enough garlic soup, take lots of hot drinks and rest. Next day you will feel better, if not your guide will look for another solution. If you are really serious, we will arrange a rescue helicopter flight from Kathmandu or Lukla, within a couple of hours to save 100% your life. 

Communication: If some one seriously sick or injured, you have to call at Kathmandu for rescue helicopter. At Makalu Sherpani Col region, mobile network service is not available for calling. We will send satellite phone set with enough balance, extra battery and solar charger for emergency call and service.
 

Himalayan views: Beginning of the trek you can see only the mountains and some small Himalayan peaks. From base camp you can see giant view of 5th highest Himalayan peak Makalu alt. 8,485m. After base camp you can see different views of Makalu and Baruntse. The spectacular views of Khumbu Himalaya you can see from Tashi Labtsa pass, for the detail please check at daily itinerary.

📅 Trekking Season and Weather:

Autumn Season (September - November) one of the spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains and high Himalaya. Perfect temperatures for trekking, making days enjoyable.
 
Spring Season (March - May) Spectacular clear views. The stable weather brings excellent visibility. Above 3,000m, beautiful landscape with Himalayan rhododendrons and various wildflowers in full blossom.
 
Winter Season (December to February) In the winter season it is not possible to complete the Sherpani Col. Clear skies at low elevations, the air is clean and visibility is excellent. Temperatures drop significantly in the morning and night.

Summer Season (June - August) High rainfall and lush greenery (if you don't mind the rain). Generally, not suitable for trekking. Heavy raining, poor visibility, landslides, and high river levels that may block trekking trails and motor roads.
 

🍽️ Practical Detail and Trekking Services:

Hotel accommodation at Kathmandu: During your stay at Kathmandu, you will stay at 3-star hotel, twin sharing basis room with bed and breakfast services. 

Restaurant and Daily meals: At Kathmandu, there are several restaurants where you can get Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, Nepalese and Continental dishes in veg. or non veg. different kinds of sweet dishes, hot or cold drinks available.

Trekking crew (Nepali staff): Without an experience trekking guide and trekking staff (cook, Sherpa helpers, kitchen boys and porters) any adventure trek is not possible. During the trek, guide and Sherpa helpers will set up all tents, porters will carry all your heavy luggage. Trekking cook and kitchen staff prepare fresh, hot, and delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day for your service. Our entire Nepalese staff team works together even at elevations above 5,000 m. without hesitate.

Daily activities and meals during the trek: Early in the morning, Sherpa and kitchen staff will bring a hot drink (coffee or tea) at your tent, followed by a bowl of warm washing water to freshen up. You can pack up your duffle bag for upcoming journey and join for the breakfast which will be served warm and fresh at the table with scenic panorama of mountains.

In day time, you can stroll around peacefully, take scenic pictures and visit local villages, monasteries or schools with your guide and Sherpas. Fresh and warm lunch with hot drinks will be serve between 11:00 to 13:00 after lunch rest about one hours, than continue the trek.

In the afternoon at the camp, your tent will be set up, and your mattress and luggage will be brought inside the tent. The kitchen staff will bring warm or cold water to clean your face and hands. After freshening up, you can relax in the dining tent with hot drinks, biscuits, and cheese. You will have plenty of time to rest before dinner. Each day cook will prefer fresh buffet dinner, beginning with soup, minimum five cuisine with hot drinks. At dinner time, your guide will ask about the day's trek and explain the program for the next morning.

please Note:  At high elevation it takes time to prepare hot and fresh lunch, to save the time trek between Makalu base camp to Chhukung, we provide pack lunch (picnic) with hot juice and tea. 

Flight and Transportation:  You have to take a domestic flight from Kathmandu / Tumlingtar, end of the trek flight from Lukla / Kathmandu. From Tumlingtar airport to Num Bazaar, drive by 4WD privet jeep. For the details please check the daily itinerary at the end of this site.

Climbing equipment: For Sherpani Col and Tashi Labtsa, you need climbing equipment, which you have to bring yourself. We will provide climbing equipment such as fix ropes, main ropes, ice axe and necessary items as your requirement..  

Trekking equipment and accommodation: For this high elevation trek, you need warm equipment and sleeping bag. If you don’t have such, you can hire or buy at Kathmandu as your size.

During the tented camping trek, we provide two man sharing double tents or single supplement high altitude tents with double (Foam + waterproof) mattresses, dining tent with folding table and stools, kitchen tent with kitchen utensils, toilet tent, shower tent, staff and porter’s tent. High altitude equipment for the staff and porters. 

Trekking equipment check list: Trekking boots, light shoes / trainers, down or fibre pile jacket, fleece or sweater, shirts (x 2), long and short trekking trousers (and /or long skirt for women), windproof jacket & trouser, waterproof poncho, sun hat, woollen cap, gloves, woollen socks (x 3), underwear.

Other essential items: Kitbag and padlock, small rucksack, down sleeping bag (4 seasons +) with inner liner, water bottle (1 litre capacity), head torch, personal first aid, sun and snow glasses/goggles, sun cream (factor 15+) & lip slave, towel & wash kit, whistle, passport, passport-size photographs, plastic bags, money belt.

 

Optional: Camera (with high-capacity memory cards and extra batteries), trekking poles / walking sticks, binoculars, notebook, pen etc.

Daily Itinerary

Warm Welcome: Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport, Our representative will meet you at the airport terminal with a personalized sign, handling your luggage, welcome you with colourful flowers, drive to star hotel as your booking. Upon arrival at your hotel, you will be served a refreshing welcome drink at reception while our team assists with your check-in.

First Evening & Briefing: In the evening, you can enjoy dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant. During this time, our Tour Manager will conduct a comprehensive briefing, covering your trekking itinerary, safety protocols, and any other essential information for your upcoming adventure.

Kathmandu is a vibrant hub of culture and heritage, home to some of the world's most significant Buddhist stupas and Hindu temples. Following breakfast, you are free to spend the day exploring the historic sites across Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan.

Getting Around: For longer distances-such as visits to Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, or Swayambhunath, as well as excursions to the neighbouring cities of Bhaktapur and Patan, hiring a taxi is the most convenient option.

Rickshaws & Walking: Within the Kathmandu city centre including Durbar Square, New Road, and the Thamel tourist market, you can enjoy a traditional rickshaw ride (a three-wheeled bicycle) or simply explore the bustling streets on foot.

Important Notes: Please be aware that all UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan require an entry fee for visitors.

Shopping & Souvenirs: Thamel, the city's primary tourist hub, is filled with shops selling high-quality trekking equipment and unique souvenirs. Keep in mind that the Nepalese market culture is quite different from Western standards don't forget to friendly haggle for a discount!

Dining: For lunch and dinner, you will find an array of excellent restaurants offering diverse international and local menus to suit every palate.

  3-star hotel with bed and breakfast.

After breakfast, start your first day trekking, descend to Arun river cross suspension bridge climb Bhet gari for lunch, after short rest climb to Siduwa village for overnight tented camp. Good campsite with beautiful views.    5 to 6 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, trek to Naba gaou for lunch, trek continue to Tashi gaou for overnight tented camp, Good camp site with beautiful views above the village .    5 to 6 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, an easy trek, about one hour, gradually climb through jungle and Bamboo bush, lunch at tea shop, trek continues to Khongma la for overnight tented camp. Good campsite with beautiful views.    6 to 7 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, gradually climb through rhododendron forest up to Kongma la cross Sipton la trek through Kalo Pokhari, to Tin Pokhari. Today you will get pack lunch (picnic) with hot tea or juice, to save time. Trek continues after Keke La pass descend to Dhobate for overnight tented camp. Camp site is not good but really nice view.    5 to 6 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, descend to Barun river, follow the river, lunch stop on the way, trek continues to Yangri kharka there are few tea houses, very beautiful campsite.    6 to 7 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

Now you are above 3,500m. you need rest for high acclimatization, after breakfast visit Shiva Dhara back to camp for lunch. Day time, take a hot shower and just relax, save your energy for Makalu base camp.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, an easy trek along the Barun river, lunch at Taa Tasha (one tea house) , trek for about one hour and climb to Langmale kharka, a very beautiful campsite with views of Hongu peak.    5 to 6 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, easy trek, nice view of Hongu and other peaks, lunch at Shershong trek continue to Makalu base camp for overnight tented Makalu base camp. This place is called Makalu base camp but the real base camp is at the glacier. The camp site is not so good but the views are perfect with a giant view of Makalu. There are few tea shops ladies, from Tashi gaou.    6 to 7 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, explore to the real Makalu base camp, after views back to camp for lunch afternoon free just relax. From this place separate the route for an adventure trekking Sherpani Col. Ama Labtsa to Khumbu valley.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

From today you will get a pack launch (picnic) with hot tea or juice, until Ama Labtsa pass. After breakfast, trek starts through the glacier, pack lunch on the way, trek continues to Swiss base camp for overnight camp. This is the place at the glacier with a different name. Good campsite at glacier with beautiful Himalayan view.
At glacier or snow trek early morning will be better, after midday melt the ice and snow, very slippery and falling the rocks.    5 to 6 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, trek through glacier and snow, pack lunch on the way, overnight camp at snow, known as Sherpani base camp. The glacier trail always changes, difficult to know the right way. You need to follow your guide and Sherpa.    5 to 6 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

Early morning after breakfast, trek through snow and ice, some parts you may need to fix rope after big challenge cross the Sherpani col (alt. 6,193m.) trek continues to West col, camp at snow from pass you can see a spectacular view of Makalu, Baruntse and other Himalayan peaks.    7 to 8 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

 

 

After breakfast, trek through snow and ice, pack lunch on the way, and gradually descend to Baruntse base camp, a beautiful campsite with a small glacier lake. From the base camp there is a giant view of Baruntse. Maybe you can meet some expedition team.    5 to 7 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, trek through glacier, pack lunch at glacier, trek continues overnight camp at glacier below Tashi Labtsa. From Mera peak, Ama labtsa trekking route joins Baruntse base camp.    6 to 7 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

Early morning after breakfast, climb through icefall and snow, several parts you need to fix rope. After a big challenge summit Ama Labtsa pass (5,845m.) rocky pass with some prayer flags. From the pass you can see a spectacular view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Khang Tega, Ama Dablam, Baruntse, Chamlang, Makalu, Kanchanjunga many Himalayan peaks and Khumbu region. After Panorama views and pack lunch, steep descend (need fix rope) to Chhukung valley for overnight tented camp.    7 to 8 hours.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

If you arrive as itinerary, there will be one day extra. That extra day you can spend as a rest here. It will be a great happy and unforgettable day for everyone.

Note: If you like to be continue the trek, you can trek to Dingboche or Pangboche. You can decide with your guide and team members.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, an easy trek to Pangboche for lunch, visit the oldest monastery in the Khumbu region. Trek continues to Thyangboche monastery. At Thyangboche there are several tourist standard hotels, lodges and restaurants for your refreshment, hotel accommodation at Thyangboche.    6 to 7 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, visit the monastery, rest for an excellent panorama view from Thyangboche monastery, where you feel a very different environment. Day time takes hot shower and relax with hot cakes enjoy your holiday, same lodge accommodation at Thyangboche.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast descend to Phungi tanga, trek continue to Khumjung village for lunch and over night accommodation at hotel or lodge. After lunch visit Everest view hotel (world highest elevation’s hotel) back to Khumjung village.    3 to 4 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast visit Khumjung monastery and Khunde hospital. Trek through Syangboche airport and descend to Namche Bazaar for lunch. After a short rest gradual descent to Bhote koshi river, cross the suspension bridge, an easy trek continues to Monjo village for overnight lodge accommodation.    5 to 6 hours trek.

Meals: Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Stay at: Hotel or lodge.  Walking hours approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast trek to Choplung for lunch, trek continues to Lukla for overnight hotel accommodation.    4 to 5 hours trek.
After dinner Tips for trekking staff, trek successful gathering party with crew and team members.    Complete the trek.

After breakfast, 35 minutes flight from Lukla to Kathmandu with your guide, at Kathmandu airport vehicle waiting for you, drive to the hotel, welcome drinks at the reception check in room, lunch and dinner as your choice at any restaurant.

Note: Main season no more direct flight between Lukla / Kathmandu. Flight will operate from Lukla to Ramechap Manthali airport than drive to Kathmandu.

Today is a flexible day for you to enjoy the charm of Kathmandu at your own pace. After the completion of your trek, all about relaxing and soaking up the local atmosphere. After breakfast, the city is yours to explore.
