14 days Tili Cho - Mesokanto pass:

Dear all trekkers,

Namaste! A warm welcome to trekkers from all over the world. We invite you to trekking at Annapurna circuit 'Tili Cho pass' region. Which is a true paradise for those who love high-altitude adventure, untouched nature, and the serene mountain environment.

About Tili Cho: The Tili Cho Lake and Mesokanto Pass trek is one of the most adventurous and raw routes in the Annapurna region of Nepal. While the Annapurna Circuit Throng pass and Tili Cho Masokanto pass trekking route is same until Manang village.

After Manang we have turn left hand side to Khangsar village. Between Khangsar to Tini at Jomsom Bazaar, there are not any villages only some lodges and tea houses in trekking route. Tilicho (4,919m), located above Khangsar valley just below the wide Tili Cho peak, which is the highest elevation lake.

Mesokanto (alt. 5,330m.) is one of the less crowds and technical remot Pass (5,330m). between Marshyangdi valley at Manang and Kali Gandaki valley at Jomsom.

Highlights the journeys: Recent days the transport to Manang is available from Kathmandu, however, we do not recommend this due to the risk of altitude sickness. We prefer to drive to Chame Bazaar and trek for Annapurna circuit. This gradual ascent helps your body adjust safely. The route follows the Marshyangdi River, passing through traditional Manang villages like Brathang, Pisang, Braga, Manang ascent to Tili Cho Lake than Mesokanto pass. After Mesokanto pass (alt. 5,330m.) descending to Jomsom Bazaar ending the trek. From Jomsom flight to Pokhara.

Panorama before Tili Cho lake: The Himalaya and other views always better from high elevation. After Pissang village you will see spectacular giant views of Annapurna range at your left-hand side. During the trek you can see above 8,000m. Himalayan peaks Annapurna I, and Manaslu. The iconic Himalayan peaks Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, Glacier doom, Tili Cho peak. You can see the trekking peaks Chulu east, Chulu and Pissang peak. You are in the lush, green, and jagged Marshyangdi valleys of Manang, each day you can see Annapurna range very clearly.

Panorama after Mesokanto pass: After Throng pass you can see spectacular view of Dhaulagiri range, Tukche peak, Nilgiri and Mustang Tibet border’s peaks. You drop into the rain-shadow of the Himalayas (Lower Mustang) at Kali Gandaki valley. The landscape becomes arid and desert-like, which makes the massive, snow-covered Dhaulagiri look even more imposing against the brown hills.

Please Note: For all the specific route details, lodging and trip information, please follow the ''day - by - day itinerary'' at the bottom of this site.

Safety Note - Animal Caravans: Between Khangsar to Tili Cho base camp you will frequently encounter caravans of Yaks, Jopkyos, and Mules transporting goods. If you hear bells ringing in the distance, start looking for a wide spot in the trail to step aside immediately. It’s much easier to find a safe spot early than to scramble when the caravan is right on top of you. Always move to the mountainside (the inner wall) of the trail and wait for the animals to pass. Never stand on the cliff-side edge.

High altitude sickness and safety:

High-altitude sickness occurs when your body can’t get enough oxygen because the lower air pressure at higher elevation above 3,000m. when you ascend too quickly during the trek. At High elevation anyone at any time can be suffering from high-altitude sickness which is common, you don’t have to be nervous but please be attention.

Symptoms of altitude: If you feel symptoms of high- altitude (Headache, vomiting, loss your appetite, Dizziness and trouble falling asleep) stop to ascending immediately descend as possible. Eat enough garlic soup, take lots of hot drinks and rest. Next day you will feel better, if not your guide will look for another solution check at H.R.A. (Himalayan Rescue Association) clinic at Manang. In serious cases, clinic will recommend a rescue flight, we can arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation.

Emergency Helicopter Evacuation: Your safety is our absolute priority. In the event of serious illness or injury, our guides are trained to act immediately. They will maintain constant communication with our Kathmandu-based agency to coordinate a rapid response.

We can arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation from any point on the trail back to Kathmandu within a few hours (weather permitting). To ensure a smooth and life-saving rescue, we require all our guests to have travel insurance that specifically covers high-altitude helicopter rescue and medical evacuation. Our team will handle all the logistics with your insurance provider and the helicopter operators so that you can focus entirely on recovery.

Travel Insurance: Unfortunate illness or injury can happen to anyone, anywhere. In the remote mountain regions where we trek, your safety is paramount. Because ground transport to the nearest clinic can be slow, we rely on rapid aerial response.

Action Required: We strongly advise you to issue a 'comprehensive travel insurance policy' from your home country or in Kathmandu. Your policy must specifically cover emergency helicopter evacuation and medical expenses at high altitudes (up to 6,000m.

Pro Tip: Please Always carry a digital and printed copy of your insurance certificate and the 24-hour emergency contact number for your provider.

The Best Season and Weather:

Due to the effects of global warming, mountain weather has become increasingly unpredictable. However, the Himalayan seasons generally follow these patterns:

Spring Season (March - May) Spectacular clear views. The stable weather brings excellent visibility. Above 3,000m, beautiful landscape with Himalayan rhododendrons and various wildflowers in full blossom.

Autumn Season (September - November) one of the spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains and high Himalaya. Perfect temperatures for trekking, making days enjoyable one of the best times for the trek.

Winter (December – February) & Summer (June – August): These seasons present significant challenges for the Masokanto pass Annapurna Circuit. In winter, heavy snowfall frequently blocks the Tili Cho, Mesokanto Pass, making the crossing dangerous or impossible. During the summer monsoon, heavy rains result in poor visibility and the presence of leeches on the trails. More importantly, the risk of landslides increases, and rising river levels can wash out trekking paths or block the motor roads leading to the trailhead.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Stay at: Lodge. Walking Time: Approximately 5 to 6 hours.

The trek from Pisang to Manang is widely considered the most spectacular day on the Annapurna Circuit. You have a critical choice to make: the Lower Route (faster/flatter) or the High Route (steeper/epic views).

Morning Trek:  The lower route, this path follows the valley floor and the dirt road. It passes through the village of Humde (where there is a small mountain airstrip). While easier on the legs, it is much dustier and lacks the dramatic panoramic vistas of the high route. You can take lunch at Humde or Braga as your appetite.

Day Trek: After Humde, you have to cross the bridge, an easy trek to Braga village. The upper route from Gyaro / Ngawal will be join here at Braga. Even if you're interested you can explore the Braga Monastery is worth the 20-minute detour. It’s one of the oldest and most atmospheric in the region.

Lodging at Manang: Manang is a fascinating place where the landscape shifts from the pine forests you saw earlier into a high-altitude, arid "trans-Himalayan" desert. Since you are staying for two nights to acclimatize, you have the perfect opportunity to let your body adjust before tackling the Thorong La Pass.

At Manang there are several lodges, your guide will select the best available lodge or hotel for your two-night stay. If you like this is your last chance for high-quality apple pie or chocolate croissants for a few days.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Stay at; Hotel or lodge. Walking: Approximately 5 to 6 hours.

You are now above 3,500m. high elevation, your blood oxygen levels are significantly lower than at sea level. Manang is the traditional "safety buffer" where most trekkers spend an extra day to prevent Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS).

The Golden Rule: Stay active during your "rest" day. If you just sit in the lodge, your body acclimatizes slower. You want to "climb high and sleep low."

Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) usually gives a free daily lecture at 3:00 PM about altitude safety. It’s highly recommended.

Day Hike: After lunch you can A short walk across the river to a glacial lake. You can climb the ridge nearby for a great view of the Gangapurna Icefall.

If you are fie well, you can full-day hike. It’s a steep grind, but it is the best possible preparation for the pass. If you can make it to Ice Lake (alt. 4,600m.) and back, the Thorong La will feel much more manageable.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Stay at; Hotel or lodge. Walking: As you can.

The trek from Manang to Khangsar (3,756m) marks the point where you diverge from the main Annapurna Circuit to head toward the stunning Tilicho Lake. It is a short but scenic walk that helps further your acclimatization.

Morning Trek and Lunch: After delicious warm breakfast at Manang, an easy trek to Khangsar village. You will reach at Khangsar for lunch. Instead of following the main trail uphill toward Yak Kharka (the way to Thorong La), you take the lower trail that drops down toward the river.

After lunch you can explore the village, walk up hill and back to lodge.

Khangsar village: As you climb toward Khangsar, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and "Tibetan" in feel. You’ll have incredible views of the Great Barrier (a high ridge connecting the Annapurna peaks) and the Tilicho Peak. Khangsar is an old, traditional Managge village with stone houses and narrow alleys. It feels much more remote and less commercialized than Manang.

Accommodation: While there are fewer lodges here than in Manang, the ones available are comfortable and offer standard trekking meals Dal Bhat, Tarkari, pasta, and butter salt tea.

Blue Sheep: Keep your eyes on the cliffs above the trail; this area is a common spot to see herds of Himalayan Blue Sheep (Bharal).

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Stay at; lodge. Walking: Approximately 3 to 4 hours.

The trail from Khangsar to Tilicho Base Camp is one of the most dramatic stretches in the Himalayas, known for its narrow paths and the famous "Landslide Area."

Morning Khangsar to Shree Kharka: The first part of the day is a steady climb to Shree Kharka (4,075m). This is a small settlement with a few lodges. Many trekkers stop here for an early lunch or a tea break before tackling the more technical section ahead.

From Shree Kharka, there are two paths. Always take the "New Trail" (the lower one).  The Old Trail goes much higher and is considered dangerous due to deteriorating conditions. The New Trail is more stable and better maintained, though it still passes through the landslide zone.

Day Trek at Landslide Area (The Crux): This is the most famous part of the day. For about 45 to 60 minutes, you will traverse a steep scree slope where the trail is narrow and carved into the side of a mountain of loose gravel.

Do not stop in the middle of this section. Keep an eye (and ear) out for falling stones triggered by wind or blue sheep above. Walk steadily and maintain your balance.

Tilicho Base Camp (4,150m): After clearing the landslide zone, the trail levels out and brings you to the Base Camp. This isn't a "camp" in the tent sense; it’s a cluster of several large, well-equipped guest houses nestled at the foot of massive peaks.

Book Ahead: During peak season (October/November & April/May), Base Camp can get extremely crowded. your guide will call ahead, for cozy room and warm dinner.

Early Bedtime: Today you have to take early dinner by 6:00 PM and try to be in your sleeping bag, because out side is freezing and tomorrow morning 3:00 AM ascent to Tili Cho lake and Masokanto pass, which is your goal.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Stay at: Local Lodge. walking: Approximately 6 to 7 hours.

Today is Top day for you, it is long way from Base camp to Jomsom via Tili Cho Lake and cross Measokanto pass.

Early morning trek: Early morning at 3:00 AM sip of hot drinks, pack your baggage, take enough liquid and pack lunch. You can ascent with your guide and porters to Tili Cho lake, don't forget to take your headlamps with extra battery. The trail isn't overly steep, but it's a long.

Tilicho Lake (alt. 4,919m) it takes about 3-hour zigzag climb from Base Camp. There are no lodges at the lake itself, just a small seasonal tea shack (sometimes).

For a long time, Tilicho was widely marketed as the "highest lake in the world." While it remains one of the highest large lakes globally, it was officially surpassed in altitude by Kajin Sara Lake (5,020m), discovered in 2019 in the Manang district. It is roughly 4 km long and 1.2 km wide, with a surface area of about 4.8 sq km. On a clear day, the water is a deep, striking turquoise, reflecting the massive Tilicho Peak (7,134m) and the Great Barrier ridge.

Day Trek: Trek from Tilicho Lake to Jomsom via the Mesokanto La (5,121m) is a major step up from the standard Annapurna Circuit. This route is significantly more difficult, remote, and dangerous than the Thorong La Pass. From the lake to pass it takes about 2 - 3 hours, but it up to your condition and speed.

Descent from Measokanto: A much easier decent through military training areas and alpine scrub until you reach the bustling wind-blown streets of Jomsom (2,720m).You can see spectacular panorama of Dhaulagiri range from Yak Kharka, sometime there is a small Teashop for hot drinks and Maggie nodule soup.

After Yak Kharka continue descend to Tini village cross the Kaligandaki river bridge you will reach at Jomsom Bazaar late afternoon.
