21 days Three passes Trek Khumbu:

Dear all trekkers,

Namaste! A warm welcome to trekkers from all over the world. We invite you to trekking at Mt. Everest Khumbu region three pass trek. Which is a true paradise for those who love high-altitude adventure, untouched nature, and the serene mountain environment.

About three pass treks: The Three Passes Trek is widely considered the ultimate trekking experience in Nepal’s Everest (Khumbu) region. It’s essentially the "grand tour," taking you to Everest Base Camp and over three high-altitude mountain passes that offer 360-degree views of the Himalayas.

The Challenge: You aren't just walking uphill; you’re navigating scree slopes, crossing a glacier, and dealing with extreme altitude for multiple days in a row. For this trip, you need to be physically fit, well acclimatize and strong enough.

The Three high adventure passes are as follow:

1. Komgma la (alt. 5,534m.) The highest and toughest pass; offers stunning views of LHotse and the Khumbu Glacier.

2. Cho La pass (alt. 5,420m.) Involves crossing a small glacier; connects the Everest Base Camp trail to the Gokyo Lakes.

3. Renjo La (alt. 5,360m.) Arguably the best view in Nepal, looking over Gokyo Lakes with Everest in the background. After the pass descent to Lungden valley at Thame region.

Three high best Himalayan panoramic ridges are:

1. Chhukung Ri (5,550m.)Located above the village of Chhukung, this is often used as a "warm-up" before tackling the first pass (Kongma La).

You are looking   at the massive south face of Lhotse and Nuptse. It also gives you a bird's-eye view of Island Peak. It’s steep and rocky, but because it's earlier in the trek, it’s a great test for how your lungs are handling the altitude '' High climb - Low sleep''

2. Kalapatthar (5,545m.): This is the most famous viewpoint in the world for a reason. Located above Gorakshap and Everest Base Camp.

You cannot actually see the summit of Mount Everest from Everest Base Camp. You climb Kala Patthar to see it. It offers the classic view of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse towering over the Khumbu Icefall.

The Tip: Most people climb this at sunrise, but sunset is actually better because the sun hits the face of Everest directly (instead of being behind it).

3. Gokyo Ri (5,357m.) Located above Gokyo Lake. Many trekkers consider this the best view of the entire trip.

The View: A "four-peak" panorama. You can see four 8,000m peaks at once: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. You also look down onto the Ngozumpa Glacier (the longest in the Himalayas) and the brilliant turquoise waters of the Gokyo Lakes.

Highlights the journey: The journey begins with the famous flight into Tenzing-Hillary Airport, the Gateway Lukla (2,840m). The Path to Namche: From Lukla, you actually descend initially toward Phakding. You follow the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several high suspension bridges draped in prayer flags.

In - route from Jorsalle Nepal army check post Sagarmatha National Park will start, which established in 1976 declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. UNESCO recognized the region for its unique blend of natural beauty and Sherpa culture, as well as its ecological importance. The national park helps to keep the flora, fauna and wildlife animals at this region. During the trekking period you can watch very closely the Himalayan tahr and Musk deer.

After Namche Bazaar this trek will pass through Tyangboche monastery, Pangboche, Dingboche, Kongma pass, Everest base camp, Cho la pass, Gokyo lake, Renjo pass, Thami village to Namche Bazaar. Recent days there are several tourist standard hotels, lodges, tea houses and restaurants are available at this trekking routes. Which made easier for accommodation and daily meals.

Finishing the high passes and descending through the Thame valley brings you back to the familiar streets of Namche Bazaar. Retracing your steps from Namche to Lukla often feels like a "victory lap" the air feels thicker, the walking feels easier, and you can truly enjoy the scenery you first saw when the journey began.

Please Note: For the details trekking routes, lodging and lodges accommodation, please check ''day - by - day route itinerary'' at the end of this site.

Safety Note - Animal Caravans: In the Khumbu (Everest), you will frequently encounter caravans of Yaks, Jopkyos, and Mules transporting goods. If you hear bells ringing in the distance, start looking for a wide spot in the trail to step aside immediately. It’s much easier to find a safe spot early than to scramble when the caravan is right on top of you. Always move to the mountainside (the inner wall) of the trail and wait for the animals to pass. Never stand on the cliff-side edge.

Himalayan views: During this trek you will see giant view of Mt. Everest from Kala patter just front of you. You can see above 8,000m. peaks: Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchanjunga and Cho oyu. Starting early after breakfast, you will trek along the western shore of Gokyo Lake. The climb to the top of the pass is a steady, zig-zagging ascent on a well-constructed stone path. As you gain height, the view of the Gokyo village nestled beside the turquoise water becomes increasingly dramatic.

A Final Masterpiece: Reaching the Renjo La (5,360m) provides what many consider the single best view in Nepal. Unlike other viewpoints, from here you can see all the Himalayan peaks in different angle. Also you can see Tashi Labtsa and  Pachermo peak.

Descent Into the Lungden Valley: Enjoy your pack lunch with panorama. After a summit break for photos and lunch, the trail descends steeply over stone stairs, eventually leveling out into a high alpine pasture. You will pass remote frozen lakes and ancient yak pastures as you head toward Lungden (Marlung). At Lungden there are only two small lodges for night accommodation and meaks.

Breakfast + pack lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging at Lungden.  Approx. 7 to 9 hours.

Descending to the Valley: After breakfast, you begin your descent into the majestic (Bhote Koshi) Thame Valley for lunch. This area is a historic hub for Himalayan exploration and trade, serving as a gateway to three iconic routes:

Nangpa La: The ancient high-altitude trade pass between Nepal and Tibet.

Tashi Lapcha: The technical 'Tashi Labtsa pass' into the Rolwaling Valley.

Renjo La: The pass you have just conquered from Gokyo Lake.

The Journey Down: The morning trek is a gentle descent through high alpine scenery. After approximately 3 hours, you will arrive at your designated lunch spot to rest and refuel at Tea house.

After lunch, the trail continues toward Thame. Before reaching the village, you will take a detour to visit the Thame Monastery (Gumba). Perched high on a cliffside, this is one of the oldest and most significant monasteries in the Khumbu region, offering a peaceful atmosphere and stunning views of the valley below.

Resting in Thame: The day concludes in the traditional village of Thame, the childhood home of many famous Everest summiteers. You will settle into one of the local lodges for dinner and your overnight stay.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging at Thame village.   approx. 5 to 6 hours.

The Morning: After a late breakfast in Thame, you'll enjoy a relatively easy, mostly descending trail toward the east. You follow the Bhote Koshi River valley, which is much quieter than the main Everest trail.

Lunch at Thamo (3,480m): Thamo is a peaceful village about halfway through the day. It is home to a small nunnery and offers a perfect spot to rest. The views of Thamserku and Kwangde from here are exceptional.

The Afternoon Climb: After lunch, you’ll cross the river and face a moderate ascent. You will pass through forests of pine and juniper before the valley opens up into the wide, glacial bowl where Khumjung and Khunde sit.

Khumjung (3,790m) and its neighbor Khunde (3,840m) are often called the "Green Valley" because of the green roofs and the organized stone-walled.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging at Khumjung village Approx. 3 to 4 hours.

Morning Trek: After breakfast in Khumjung, you take a short but steady 30 to 45-minute uphill climb and descend Shyangboche airport for rest. Steep descend to Namche Bazaar for lunch.

Exiting the National Park: We pass through the village of Jorsalle and officially check out of the Sagarmatha National Park before reaching the quiet village of Monjo (2,835m). Monjo is a much quieter place to spend the night compared to Namche. The lodges here are cozy and surrounded by greenery, providing a perfect atmosphere for a restful evening after a long day of downhill trekking.
