21 days Gokyo - Everest base camp:

Dear all trekkers,
Namaste! A warm welcome to trekkers from all over the world. We invite you to trekking at Mt. Everest Khumbu region Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp / Kalapatthar. Which is a true paradise for those who love high-altitude adventure, untouched nature, and the serene mountain environment.

About Gokyo valley: The valley sits right next to the Ngozumpa Glacier, which is the longest glacier in the Himalayas, stretching over 36km. As you trek into Gokyo, you can often hear the glacier "creaking" and "groaning" as the ice shifts and rocks tumble - a reminder that the landscape is constantly moving.

The colour of the lakes isn't a trick of the light - it’s science! The striking turquoise colour. When the sun hits these particles suspended in the water, they reflect that brilliant, milky blue-green.

Gokyo Ri: Many trekkers argue that the view from Gokyo Ri (alt. 5,357m.) From Gokyo Ri, you can see four 8,000-meter peaks simultaneously:Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. Also, you can see several below 8,000m. iconic Himalayan peaks.

About Everest B.C. / Kalapatthar: In Nepali and Hindi, Kala means "Black" and Patthar means "Rock." It is aptly named for the Black Rock. Located (alt. 5,545m.) just above Everest Base camp and Gorakshap.

Why not Base Camp? When you are at Everest Base Camp, the massive "shoulder" of Nuptse actually blocks the view of Everest’s summit. Many trekkers prefer Kalapatthar for the view.

Panorama: From the top of Kala Patthar, you can see Mt. Everest from its base face to face at the Khumbu Icefall all the way to its wind-swept peak. Also, you can see several Himalayan peaks.

Highlifgts the journey: The journey begins with the flight into famous Tenzing-Hillary Airport, the Gateway Lukla (2,840m). The Path to Namche: From Lukla, you actually descend initially toward Phakding. You follow the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several high suspension bridges draped in prayer flags.

In - route from Jorsalle Nepal army check post Sagarmatha National Park will start, which established in 1976 declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. UNESCO recognized the region for its unique blend of natural beauty and Sherpa culture, as well as its ecological importance. The national park helps to keep the flora, fauna and wildlife animals at this region. During the trekking period you can watch very closely the Himalayan tahr and Musk deer.

After departing Namche Bazaar, this trek ventures into the stunning Gokyo Valley, home to the emerald Gokyo Lakes. After standing atop of Gokyo Ri (alt. 5,357m.) for a 360-degree Himalayan panorama, the journey continues toward the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar region.

There are two distinct ways to transition from Gokyo to the Everest side. While the duration is similar, the experience is very different:

The Lower Route via Phortse Village: A scenic, high-contouring trail that offers incredible wildlife spotting and deep cultural insights into traditional Sherpa villages.

The Upper Route via Cho La Pass: A thrilling and more technical high-altitude crossing at (alt. 5,420m.) involving glacier walking and steep rock scrambles for the ultimate adventure.

The Descent: After the unforgettable exploration of Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, you will begin your descent through the iconic villages of Lobuche, Dingboche, Pangboche, and Tengboche. A final stop in the quiet, green valley of Khumjung brings you back to the familiar, bustling streets of Namche Bazaar.

The Victory Lap: Retracing your steps from Namche to Lukla often feels like a "victory lap." With thicker air and easier walking, you can truly soak in the scenery that felt so daunting at the start. It is a time to celebrate your achievement before the flight back to Kathmandu.

Please Note: For all the specific route details, lodging and trip information, please follow the ''day - by - day itinerary'' at the bottom of this site.

Safety Note - Animal Caravans: In the Khumbu (Everest), you will frequently encounter caravans of Yaks, Jopkyos, and Mules transporting goods. If you hear bells ringing in the distance, start looking for a wide spot in the trail to step aside immediately. It’s much easier to find a safe spot early than to scramble when the caravan is right on top of you. Always move to the mountainside (the inner wall) of the trail and wait for the animals to pass. Never stand on the cliff-side edge.

The Himalayan Panorama: During this trek you will see giant view of Mt. Everest from Kala patter just front of you. You can see above 8,000m. peaks: Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchanjunga and Cho oyu. Below 8,000m. Himalayan peaks: Nuptse, Pumori, Chamlang, Baruntse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khang Tega, Gyajung khang and Tawuche. The Solar Charger: At Cho La pass, there is a small solar station at the top - a true luxury at that altitude! you can re-charge your mobile, power bank or camera. The view is same which yoy saw already from Gokyo Ri but difffrent angle.

Dzongla: Located at (alt. 4,830m.) very quite less corwd and beautiful panorama.  There is only three lodges area available eith cozy room and fresh meals.

Breakfast +  Lunch & Dinner)  Lodging at Pheriche. approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Morning trek: After breakfast at Pheriche an easy trek to Fulung Kara, take short rest ascent to memorial hill.  At the top of the climb, you’ll reach a plateau filled with hundreds of stone cairns (chortens). This is the Everest Memorial, a somber and beautiful site dedicated to climbers and Sherpas who lost their lives on Everest. It is a powerful place to pause and pay your respects.

Lunch: From the memorial hill descent to the river, cross the bridge you will reach at Thukla. Lunch stop at Thukla.

Afternoon Arrival & Rest: After a warm lunch and a well-deserved rest in Thukla, you will begin the final ascent to Lobuche for your overnight stay. As you gain altitude, the landscape transforms completely, leaving all greenery behind for a barren, lunar-like terrain of rock and ice. Walking along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped onto another planet.

Your Stay: Lobuche offers several stone-built lodges tucked beneath the towering peaks of Lobuche East and West. Your guide will select a cozy and comfortable lodge for your two-night stay, ensuring you have a warm base for your acclimatization and the upcoming push to Everest Base Camp.

Upper route! Dzongla to Labuche: Today is an easy day lunch and overnight stay at Labuche. The trek from Dzongla to Lobuche is a short but spectacular high-altitude traverse. After the intense challenge of the Cho La Pass, this day feels like a "victory lap" with some of the best mountain views in the Khumbu.

After about two hours of easy contouring, your trail merges with the main "Everest Highway" coming up from Pheriche and Thukla. You will notice a sudden increase in the number of trekkers and yak caravans.

Breakfast +  Lunch & Dinner.  Lodging at Pheriche.  approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Few trekkers overnight stay at Gorakshap, explore Kalapatthar and back to Labuche. In my itinerary we stay two night at Labuche. The excursion to Kala Patthar (5,545m) is often the absolute highlight of the Everest Base Camp trek. While Everest Base Camp puts you at the foot of the mountain, Kala Patthar provides the legendary "postcard" view of the summit that you simply cannot see from Base Camp itself.

Lobuche to Gorak Shep (3 – 4 hours): You’ll start with a relatively steady climb alongside the Khumbu Glacier. The trail is rocky and involves some navigating over glacial moraine. You’ll eventually reach Gorak Shep (5,164m), the world’s highest permanent settlement. We stop at Gorakshap for an early lunch before the final climb.

The Ascent to Kala Patthar (1.5 – 2 hours): From Gorak Shep, the trail turns steep. It is a tough, zig-zagging hike on a "black rock" (the literal translation of Kala Patthar) ridge. At this altitude (over 5,000m), you will likely take frequent "breathing breaks."

The Summit: of Kalapatthar: The top is marked by a cluster of prayer flags and boulders. From here, you are rewarded with a 360-degree panorama: Mount Everest towers directly in front of you, flanked by the massive ridges of Nuptse and Lhotse, with the perfect pyramid of Pumori right behind you.

The Return (2 - 3 hours): After soaking in the views, you’ll descend back to Gorak Shep for a rest, take hot soup and drinks.Trek continue the trek back down the valley to your lodge in Lobuche.

Breakfast +  Lunch & Dinner.   Lodging at Labuche.   approximately 8 to 9 hours.

The trek from Lobuche to Dingboche is a satisfying journey that takes you out of the high-alpine "moonscape" and back into the wider, sunnier valleys of the Khumbu. Since you are descending, you will likely find that you have much more energy and "air" in your lungs than the previous few days.

Morning trek and Lunch: You’ll start by heading south out of Lobuche, following the same rocky trail along the Khumbu Glacier that you climbed a few days ago. Lunch stop at Thukla.

Day trek: After warm lunch and short rest cross the bridge, you will reach the Everest Memorial plateau again. Descending the steep, the trail splits. Instead of going right toward Pheriche (where you likely stayed before), you will take the left fork. This high-contour trail leads you around the base of the mountain and opens up into the wide, beautiful Imja Valley Dingboche.

Accommodation at Dingboche: Dingboche is a large, picturesque village surrounded by stone walls to protect the crops (mostly barley and potatoes) there are several lodges for overnight stay.

Breakfast +  Lunch & Dinner.  Lodging at Dingboche. approximately 5 to 6 hours.

It is a beautiful descent that marks your return to the "treeline." You will move from the high, dry alpine tundra back into the lush rhododendron and pine forests of the lower Khumbu.

Day trek and Lunch: After breakfast at Dingboche, the trail is mostly a gradual downhill, offering a stunning "backside" view of Ama Dablam. You will pass through Somare and eventually reach Pangboche (alt. 3,930m,), for lunch, where the air starts to feel noticeably thicker and warmer.

Day trek and accommodation: After Pangboche, the landscape changes dramatically. The barren rocks are replaced by juniper bushes, and soon you are walking through ancient rhododendron forests. If you are trekking in the spring (March/April), these trees will be in full bloom with vibrant red and pink flowers.

The trail drops down to the river crossing at Deboche. This is a quiet, shaded area home to a small nunnery. From here, you have the final challenge of the day:  steady climb up a stone-staircase trail to reach the ridge where Tyangboche monastery. There are several lodges for overnight stay and meals.

Tyangboche:

The Monastery: You can often visit the monastery in the late afternoon (around 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM) to observe the monks during their chanting and prayers. It is a deeply peaceful experience.

The Bakery: Tengboche is home to the famous Tengboche Bakery. After days of trekking, their chocolate cake or lemon tart is legendary among hikers.

The View: This is arguably the best sunset spot in the Khumbu. If the weather permits, you will be rewarded with one of the most intimate and iconic panoramic views on Earth. From Tyangboche, you will be surrounded by a 360 degree theater of giants Himalayan peaks including, Lhotse south face wall, Top of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khang Tega, Tawuche, Tashi Labtsa and Dingboche valley.

Breakfast +  Lunch & Dinner. Lodging at Tyangboche.   approximately 4 to 5 hours.

It is a beautiful, moderate journey that allows you to step off the busy main trail and enter the authentic "Green Valley" of the Sherpa heartland.Because you are slightly descending in net elevation, the air will feel a bit richer, but don't be fooled, there is a significant climb involved in the middle.

Day trek & Lunch: Leaving the monastery at Tengboche, you’ll head back down the way you likely came up. The trail drops steeply through a beautiful, dense forest of blue pine, fir, and rhododendron. You’ll reach the river at Phunki Tenga.

After crossing the suspension bridge, the "hard work" begins. You will climb back up the ridge toward Sanasa. This is a major junction where the trails to Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Valley, and Namche Bazaar meet.

Lunch: You can decide with your guide, where you like to take warm lunch at Laushsa, Sanasa or Khumjung.

Welcom Khumjung: Instead of following the main trail down to Namche, you will take the right-hand fork at Sanasa. This path contours around the hillside, offering spectacular, wide-angle views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kantega. You’ll enter Khumjung from the side, walking past long Mani walls (stone carvings) into the wide, flat valley.

Khumjung is the largest village in the Khumbu, famous for its green-roofed stone houses and its sacred guardian mountain, Mt. Khumbila. Your guide will find a comfortable lodge in this peaceful valley, where the atmosphere is much quieter and more traditional than in busy Namche Bazaar.

Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner.  Lodging at Khumjung village.   approximately 4 to 5 hours.

Lunch at: After breakfast at your lodge trek pass through descend to Namche Bazaar for lunch. At Namche you will mee the trekking route which you came before from Lukla.

The Steep Descent: After lunch, we begin the long, steep descent from Namche Bazaar to Larja Dobhan. We cross the high suspension bridges once more, looking back at the confluence of the rivers at Larja Dobhan.

Exiting the National Park: We pass through the village of Jorsalle and officially check out of the Sagarmatha National Park before reaching the quiet village of Monjo (2,835m). Monjo is a much quieter place to spend the night compared to Namche. The lodges here are cozy and surrounded by greenery, providing a perfect atmosphere for a restful evening after a long day of downhill trekking.

Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner.  Lodging at Monjo village. approximately 5 to 6 hours.

The Journey Complete: After breakfast in Monjo, we begin our final day of trekking. We retrace our steps through the lush valley, passing through Benkar and Phakding, where the landscape is now familiar and the air is warm.

Lunch at Ghat: We will stop for a final trail lunch in the village of Ghat. After lunch, there is one last gentle uphill climb to reach Lukla. Walking through the "Passang Lhamu Gate" marks the official completion of your trekking journey!
