Dear all trekkers,
Namaste! A warm welcome to trekkers from all over the world. We invite you to trekking at Kanchanjunga region. Which is a true paradise for those who love high-altitude adventure, untouched nature, and the serene mountain environment.
About Kanchanjunga Trek: The Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek is one of Nepal’s most rugged and rewarding "off-the-beaten-path" adventures. It takes you into the remote eastern corner of the country to the foot of the world's third-highest peak Kanchanjunga (8,586m.)
When you combine both base camps, you don't just hike up and down; you traverse a high-altitude ridge that connects the Ghunsa Valley (North) to the Simbuwa Khola Valley (South). This "Pass Day" is often the most physically demanding part of the entire trek.
High Passes: While different maps and local guides might use slightly different names, there are actually three main passes you cross in a single, long push to move between the sides:
1. Sele La (alt. $4,290m.) The first major ascent after leaving the village of Ghunsa.
2. Mirgin la (alt. 4,280m.) On a clear day, this is your reward. You can often see Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu in the distance to the west. Sele La (4,290m.) Mingi La (4,280m.) and Sinon La (4,646m.)
3. Sinion La (alt. 4,646m.) Also spelled Sinon La or Sinelapche La. This is often the highest of the "traverse" pass descent into the South side's base camp area (Cheram/Tseram).
North Base Camp: Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (Pangpema 5,413m.) trek is widely considered the more dramatic and high-altitude half of the Kanchenjunga. You get a front-row seat to the North Face of Kanchenjunga and the impressive pyramid of Jannu (Kumbhakarna).
South Base Camp: Kanchenjunga South Base Camp (Oktang 4,730m) trek is the "greener" and slightly more accessible alternative. Before reaching the Base Camp, you have to trek through the glacier. At this region you can see more Himalayan views than North. You can see spectacular view of Kanchanjunga five summits, Yalung Khang, Khambachen, Kirat Chuli and Sikkim border peaks.
Highlights the journeys: This specific itinerary - starting from the lower valley of the Tamor and Gunsa Khola and finishing with a 4WD exit from Yamphudin, is the classic way to experience both faces of the mountain.
The trek begins at Sekathum, where the road ends and the true wilderness starts. You follow this powerful glacial river upstream, crossing suspension bridges and rocky trails often. A steep, challenging ascent that brings you out of the lowlands and into the high-altitude terrain.
The trail from Ghunsa to Khambachen and Lhonak follows the moraine of the Kanchenjunga Glacier North Base Camp, it offers the most iconic view of the massive North Face of Kanchenjunga and Jannu (Kumbakarna.)
After North base camp same route trek back to Ghunsa village. Next day you will climb into the clouds to cross the Sele La, Mirgin La, and Sinion La (all above 4,000m). A long, steep descent brings you down into the Simbuwa Khola valley to the settlement of Tseram.
From Tseram, you ascend to the high meadows of Ramche. You reach the edge of the Yalung Glacier for a spectacular view of the South Face and the neighbouring peaks of Yalung Khang, Khambachen, Kirant Chuli, Kabru, Rathong and Sikkim border peaks.
From Ramche, you head south, crossing the Simbuwa Khola. You descend through lush, mossy Himalayan forests descend to Amji Khola region.
Yamphudin Village: This marks your return to civilization. It is a multi-ethnic village (Limbu, Rai, Sherpa) and the end of your walking journey. A rugged 4WD Jeep drive takes you through the hills of Eastern Nepal to Bhadrapur, where you catch your flight back to the buzz of Kathmandu.
Please Note: For all the specific route details, lodging and trip information, please follow the ''day - by - day itinerary'' at the bottom of this site.
Safety Note - Animal Caravans: Kanchanjunga both base camps, you will frequently encounter caravans of Yaks, Jopkyos, and Mules transporting goods. If you hear bells ringing in the distance, start looking for a wide spot in the trail to step aside immediately. It’s much easier to find a safe spot early than to scramble when the caravan is right on top of you. Always move to the mountainside (the inner wall) of the trail and wait for the animals to pass. Never stand on the cliff-side edge.
Himalayan Panorama: As a panoramic view, South base camp offer more Himalayan views. From North base camp you can see the giant view of Kanchanjunga North and Jannu (Kumbakarna).
From South base camp you can see spectacular view, five summit of Kanchanjunga South neighboring Himalayan peaks Yalung Khang, Khambachen, Kirat Chuli, Kabru, Rathong and Sikkim (India) border peaks.
Flora & Fauna: You pass through world-class Rhododendron and Pine forests. In spring, these forests are a sea of red and pink. You move through Gyabla and Phale (a Tibetan refugee settlement) before reaching Ghunsa.
High-altitude sickness occurs when your body can’t get enough oxygen because the lower air pressure at higher elevation above 3,000m. when you ascend too quickly during the trek. At High elevation anyone at any time can be suffering from high-altitude sickness which is common, you don’t have to be nervous but please be attention.
Symptoms of altitude: If you feel symptoms of high- altitude (Headache, vomiting, loss your appetite, Dizziness and trouble falling asleep) stop to ascending immediately descend as possible. Eat enough garlic soup, take lots of hot drinks and rest. Next day you will feel better, if not your guide will look for another solution.

We can arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation from any point on the trail back to Kathmandu within a few hours (weather permitting). To ensure a smooth and life-saving rescue, we require all our guests to have travel insurance that specifically covers high-altitude helicopter rescue and medical evacuation. Our team will handle all the logistics with your insurance provider and the helicopter operators so that you can focus entirely on recovery.
Travel Insurance: Unfortunate illness or injury can happen to anyone, anywhere. In the remote mountain regions where we trek, your safety is paramount. Because ground transport to the nearest clinic can be slow, we rely on rapid aerial response.
Action Required: We strongly advise you to issue a 'comprehensive travel insurance policy' from your home country or in Kathmandu. Your policy must specifically cover emergency helicopter evacuation and medical expenses at high altitudes (up to 6,000m.
Pro Tip: Please Always carry a digital and printed copy of your insurance certificate and the 24-hour emergency contact number for your provider.
Due to the effects of global warming, mountain weather has become increasingly unpredictable. However, the Himalayan seasons generally follow these patterns:
Spring Season (March - May) Spectacular clear views. The stable weather brings excellent visibility. Above 3,000m, beautiful landscape with Himalayan rhododendrons and various wildflowers in full blossom.
Autumn Season (September - November) one of the spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains and high Himalaya. Perfect temperatures for trekking, making days enjoyable one of the best times for the trek.
Winter (December – February) & Summer (June – August): These seasons present significant challenges for the Kanchanjunga North / South base camp. In winter, heavy snowfall frequently blocks high Pass, making the crossing dangerous or impossible. During the summer monsoon, heavy rains result in poor visibility and the presence of leeches on the trails. More importantly, the risk of landslides increases, and rising river levels can wash out trekking paths or block the motor roads leading to the trailhead.
Trekking Permits and Fees: For Kanchanjunga region require a trekking permit, Kanchanjunga conservation entry permit and a TIMS card (Trekkers' Information Management System). We will handle the arrangement of these for you. Local government fees will be managed and arranged by your trekking guide on the spot.

• A recent passport-size photograph by e-mail.
