Price: EUR 2185

20 days Chulu west peak Climbing / Trekking:

Dear all trekkers and climbers,
Namaste! A warm welcome trekkers and climbers from all over the world. We invite you to trekking at Annapurna region and Chulu west peak climbing. Which is a true paradise for those who love high-altitude adventure, untouched nature, and the serene mountain environment.

About Chulu west Peak: Chulu West (alt. 6,419m.) is one of the most stunning trekking peaks in Nepal. Situated in the heart of the Manang Marshyangdi Valley, just above the ''Annapurna Circuit Trekking route''  this pea k offers a true mountaineering experience with breath-taking views of the Annapurna range.

Preparation & Requirements: To climb the Chulu west, you do not need to be an elite mountaineer to succeed, but you must be:

•    Preparation: While technical expertise is managed by our team, you should be physically fit, well-acclimatized, and mentally confident.

•    The Summit Push: Starting from High Camp in the early morning, the push to the summit is straightforward but demanding.

•    The Descent: Exercise caution, descending back to High Camp can often be more taxing and riskier than the climb up. Your guide will provide a full safety briefing regarding the descent.

The Summit Push and Safety: The early morning ascent from High Camp to the summit of Chulu West (6,419m) is a steady, manageable climb. However, please be aware that the descent back to High Camp is often more challenging and carries higher risks due to fatigue and changing snow conditions. Your climbing guide will provide a detailed safety briefing and manage all technical rope work to ensure a safe return.

While the peak is notably steep just below the summit, it is considered technically accessible for those with the right preparation. The top of Chulu West is narrow and intimate; there is only enough space for 3 to 4 climbers to stand at one time, making the moment you reach the top feel incredibly exclusive.

Challenges to Consider: While the climb is non-technical, the mountain is a living environment. The most significant challenge is a several small crevasses located at high camp. This crevasse changes every year, sometimes widen or deep, requiring careful navigation. Your guide will monitor these conditions closely to ensure the team crosses safely using the best available route and rope techniques.

From the summit, weather permitting, you will be rewarded with intimate views of the Annapurna Range, Manaslu, and the peaks along the Tibetan border. For a complete list of visible Himalayan peaks, please refer to our day-to-day itinerary.

Panorama from the summit: If weather permitting, you will be rewarded with an intimate, panoramic view of the Annapurna range, Manaslu, Chiyo, Himlung and some Tibet border peaks. Himalayan peaks names are listed in our day-by-day itinerary.

Journey Highlights: To reach Chulu west Peak, it is possible to drive directly to Manang village; however, we do not recommend this due to the risk of altitude sickness. We prefer to drive to Chame Bazaar and trek to Chulu East base camp. This gradual ascent helps your body adjust safely. The route follows the Marshyangdi River.

Logistics & Route Options: The region is well-equipped with hotels, lodges, and restaurants, ensuring a comfortable stay for trekkers. After completing the summit, you have two exciting options to reach Jomsom:

1.    The Classic Route: Follow the popular trekking trail over the Thorong La Pass (5,416m).

2.    The Adventure Route: Trek via the stunning Tilicho Lake and cross the Mesokanto La Pass (5,121m) before descending to Jomsom.

Views before Throng pass: You are in the lush, green, and jagged Marshyangdi valleys of Manang, each day you can see Annapurna range very clearly.

Views after Throng Pass: You drop into the rain-shadow of the Himalayas (Lower Mustang) at Kali Gandaki valley. The landscape becomes arid and desert-like, which makes the massive, snow-covered Dhaulagiri look even more imposing against the brown hills.

Pro Tip: If you're heading down toward Muktinath after the pass, the best light for photographing Dhaulagiri is usually in the late afternoon when the sun hits its western face.

High altitude sickness and safety:

High-altitude sickness occurs when your body can’t get enough oxygen because the lower air pressure at higher elevation above 3,000m. when you ascend too quickly during the trek. At High elevation anyone at any time can be suffering from high-altitude sickness which is common, you don’t have to be nervous but please be attention.

High-altitude symptoms: If you feel symptoms of high- altitude (Headache, vomiting, loss your appetite, Dizziness and trouble falling asleep) stop to ascending immediately descend as possible. Eat enough garlic soup, take lots of hot drinks and rest. Next day you will feel better, if not your guide will look for another solution check at H.R.A. (Himalayan Rescue Association) clinic at Manang. In serious cases, clinic will recommend a rescue flight, we can arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation.

Emergency Helicopter Evacuation: Your safety is our absolute priority. In the event of serious illness or injury, our guides are trained to act immediately. They will maintain constant communication with our Kathmandu-based agency to coordinate a rapid response.

We can arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation from any point on the trail back to Kathmandu within a few hours (weather permitting). To ensure a smooth and life-saving rescue, we require all our guests to have travel insurance that specifically covers high-altitude helicopter rescue and medical evacuation. Our team will handle all the logistics with your insurance provider and the helicopter operators so that you can focus entirely on recovery.

Travel Insurance: Unfortunate illness or injury can happen to anyone, anywhere. In the remote mountain regions where we trek, your safety is paramount. Because ground transport to the nearest clinic can be slow, we rely on rapid aerial response.

•   Helicopter is one of the fastest rescue services but is extremely expensive.

•    Action Required: We strongly advise you to issue a 'comprehensive travel insurance policy' from your home country or in Kathmandu. Your policy must specifically cover emergency helicopter evacuation and medical expenses at high altitudes (up to 6,000m.

Pro Tip: Please Always carry a digital and printed copy of your insurance certificate and the 24-hour emergency contact number for your provider.

The Best Season and Weather:

Due to the effects of global warming, mountain weather has become increasingly unpredictable. However, the Himalayan seasons generally follow these patterns:

Spring Season (March - May) Spectacular clear views. The stable weather brings excellent visibility. Above 3,000m, beautiful landscape with Himalayan rhododendrons and various wildflowers in full blossom.

Autumn Season (September - November) one of the spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains and high Himalaya. Perfect temperatures for trekking, making days enjoyable one of the best times for the trek.

Winter (December – February) & Summer (June – August): These seasons present significant challenges for Trekking peak climbing. In winter, heavy snowfall frequently blocks the high Passes, making the crossing dangerous or impossible. During the summer monsoon, heavy rains result in poor visibility and the presence of leeches on the trails. More importantly, the risk of landslides increases, and rising river levels can wash out trekking paths or block the motor roads leading to the trailhead.

The Route: The trail crosses the bridge over the Marshyangdi River and winds through lush, fragrant pine forests.

Lunch: A scheduled stop for lunch at Brathang, where you can enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery.

The Ascent: After lunch, the trail includes a short, steady climb to a small pass before transitioning into an easier stretch leading toward your destination Pissang village.

Arrival: Afternoon you will reach at Pisang village, situated under the dramatic peaks of the Annapurna range and Pissang peak.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging. Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

The trek from Pisang to Braga (Bhraka) is one of the most scenically spectacular sections of the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. This is the significantly more beautiful, but also more strenuous, option. It offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna range (Annapurna II, III, IV).

Day trek: After the breakfast at Pissang, beginning the trek pass through Humde airport at Manang. After lunch trek continue to Braga village. Braga is a beautiful Manange village with a old monastery just above the village.

Accommodation: One night stay at Braga village is an excellent decision. While most trekkers continue straight on to Manang, Braga offers a much quieter and almost magical atmosphere, which help for high-acclimatization.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging. Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After the breakfast at your lodge, if you are interested you can visit the Braga monastery.

Day trek: The Distance between Braga to Manang is not far, but the high elevation make different. Trek slowly to Manang village for lunch.

Accommodation: Manang is the vibrant heart of the Annapurna Circuit, Tili Cho lake and Chulu west. It is a  perfect place to recover before the big climb to the Thorong La Pass. Since you'll be spending two nights there , comfortable accommodation is especially valuable.

Your guide is making a wise choice here, because Manang now offers a standard that one would hardly expect at this altitude (3,540 m).

Why two nights in Manang? The second day in Manang is not a "rest day" in the classic sense, but an acclimatization day . The principle is: "Walk high, sleep low" .

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging at Manang village. Approx. 2 hours.

Now you are above 3,500m. the air is very thin it may difficult to walk. Two night stay in Manang is one of the best option for high acclimatization. Since you will be spending two nights at Manang, the goal is not "resting" but active acclimatization The principle is always: "Walk High, Sleep Low".Here are the best options for your acclimatization tours, which your guide will likely discuss with you:

Morning: Many ttekkers  usually go on a hike to Ice Lake (Kicho Valley) or to the viewpoint above Gangapurna Glacier Lake .

Afternoon: Return to the lodge in Manang to acclimatize the body to the thinner air.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging same place. Approx. 3 to 4 hours.

After two night acclimatization at Manang village, after breakfast trek to Yak Kharka (Chaka Dokhang) for lunch. From Yak Kharka the main route going to Throng phedi, you have to follow right hand side ascent to Chulu west base camp.

Lunch break: In Yak Kharka (alt. 4,018m.) have your last meal in a permanent lodge before heading into Chulu west.

Vegetation: The trees almost completely disappear, giving way to a barren, wide high mountain landscape with low shrubs and juniper. Look out for blue sheep (Jharal) grazing on the steep slopes and majestic bearded vultures are circling overhead.

The Camping Experience: Late afternoon you will reach at base camp, your guide and crew will fixed the tents for your two night stay. Sleeping in a tent is a highlight for many mountaineers. It differs significantly from the comfort of the lodges in Manang:

Meals: Your guide and porters will now take on the role of kitchen crew. You'll be amazed at what can be conjured up in a small kitchen tent on gas stoves (often fresh dal bhat or noodles).

Having running water right at Chulu West Base Camp is a real luxury at this altitude. In many other high-altitude camps in the Himalayas, melting snow or ice is a laborious process that costs a lot of time and fuel.

The fact that the camp is situated on a grassy area also makes the stay considerably more comfortable than on the bare moraine debris or ice that one usually finds at this altitude.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 6 to 7 hours.

Acclimatization & Skills Training: Proper acclimatization is essential before attempting Chulu west Peak. We strictly follow the "climb high, sleep low" principle to help your body adjust to the altitude. After breakfast, your climbing guide will lead a practical training session to prepare you for the ascent.

Technical Briefing: Your climbing guide will provide detailed instructions on the route and safety protocols. Gear Demonstration: We will conduct a practical "dry run." You will practice using your Ascender (Jumar), switching carabiners on fixed ropes, and ensuring your crampons are perfectly fitted to your boots.

After Training enjoy fresh and hot lunch with panorama and just relax at your tent. Afternoon explore as you like.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp.   As you wish.

After the early lunch, you have to ascent to high camp. Before you leave base camp, your guide will meticulously check your technical equipment.

The Ascent: From Scree to Snow: The path is strenuous, First, you struggle through loose rocks , where every other step causes you to slip back a little.

The steep section: At the point where your guide sets up the fixed ropes , you will likely use your ascender (jumar). This is often a rocky or icy gully that requires full concentration.

The High Camp- Beauty and Danger: Afternoon you will reach at the high camp, your guide will put the tents and mattresses for your overnight stay. The camp in the snow is one of the most spectacular places to sleep, but it requires discipline:

Crevasses: As you mentioned, the terrain is treacherous. Never leave your tent at night without a headlamp and avoid straying from the marked trails.

Early dinner: After an early dinner, you will retire to your tent to sleep. Before you sleep, ensure the following are ready for the morning:

Headlamp: Test the batteries and keep it inside your sleeping bag to keep them warm.

The Layers: Lay out your summit clothes in the order you will put them on.

Pack lunch & Water: Ensure your water bottles are filled (and insulated if possible) and fresh pack lunch for the day at summit.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 3 hours.

The Goal (6,419m): Today is the day you have worked so hard for. The Summit of Chulu west Peak. The Early Start Success on Island Peak begins in the dark. At 3:00 AM or 4:00 AM, your guide will wake you for a "mountaineer's breakfast." Sip a hot coffee, secure your headlamp, and prepare your gear.

Essential Fuel: Ensure you have at least 2 liters of boiled water and high-energy snacks (bars or chocolate) tucked inside your jacket to prevent them from freezing.

Following your guide's lead, you need main rope, ice axe, harness and crampons crampon compulsory to cross the Crevasses. After cross the Crevasses ascent to summit, your climbing guide will fix the rope, you need to follow the line of fix rope.

The Ridge & Fixed Ropes: Using your ascender (Jumar) on the fixed ropes, you will navigate the final headwall leading to the summit.

Chulu west Peak Summit: If the weather permits, you will be rewarded with one of the most intimate and iconic panoramic views in the world. Having stood on the summit myself, I can confidently say that Chulu west Peak is the premier trekking peak for Himalayan views.

I can promise that you won't just be looking at the mountains-you will feel as though you are standing among them. From the summit you are surrounded by a "sea of giants," including Annapurna range and Manaslu.

The Descent Safety First:  Most accidents happen on the way down. After the summit, your body will be tired, and the afternoon sun can make the snow and ice slippery. Move slowly and maintain your concentration during the rappel and the trek back to Base Camp.

Recovery: Upon reaching High Camp, you will enjoy hot soup and drinks before we continue the trek back to base camp.

Option: If the weather is too windy or dangerous, we will stay one more night at High Camp and attempt the summit the following day.

Breakfast + pack lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 6 to 8 hours.

Reserve day: You came for adventure and the chance to stand at summit of Chulu west Peak; helping you achieve that dream is our primary goal. Today is a dedicated contingency day to ensure the best possible outcome for your expedition.

•    If the summit was missed yesterday: You will make a final attempt today from High Camp and then after summit trek back to base camp.

•    If the summit was successful: Enjoy a well-earned day of rest and relaxation in base camp or descend to Yak Kharka or Throng Phedi.

•    Flexible Options: Alternatively, you may consult with your team and guide to adjust your plans based on your energy levels and the current conditions.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Not sure.

After descending from Chulu West, you return to the main Annapurna Circuit route. The path to Thorong Phedi (alt. 4.450m.) is scenically barren and impressive, but it also marks the “resting place before the storm” – the Thorong La Pass.

The "guide advantage": During peak season, experienced guides often send a porter ahead or call from Manang to secure beds. It's possible that you might have to share a room in Phedi or, during the high season, even sleep in the dining hall if everything is booked or you can put your tent for overnight stay.

Atmosphere: Despite the hustle and bustle, there's a very special energy in the lodge. You can feel the excitement and tension of the trekkers who want to reach the highest point of their journey the next morning, which will be not difficult for you.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging at Throng phedi. Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

The Ascent: After an early breakfast, begin the steady and challenging climb to the Thorong La Pass (5,416m), the highest point of the trek. Near the summit of the pass, there is a small tea shop where you can take a well-deserved break for hot drinks and snacks while soaking in the achievement.

The Panoramic Views: From the pass, you will be rewarded with spectacular vistas of Yak Kawa Peak, Thorong Peak, and the massive Dhaulagiri I, II, and III. You can also see Putha Hiunchuli, Tukuche Peak, and Dhampus Peak, with views stretching across the Kali Gandaki Valley into the mysterious Mustang region.

The Descent: After crossing the pass, begin a long, gradual descent to Phedi for a restorative tea break and rest.

Arrival: Afternoon you will reach at Muktinath. The trek continues downward until you reach the sacred village of Muktinath, a significant pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. From Muktinath to Jomsom Bazaar the transport service is available, you can decide with your team and guide, trek or drive to Jomsom.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Lodging at Muktinath.   Approx. 7 to 9 hours.

Morning Exploration: After breakfast, you have the opportunity to visit the Muktinath Temple and its ancient monastery. This is a deeply spiritual site with 108 water sprouts and an eternal flame.

The Drive: Your guide will arrange a private jeep for the scenic drive from Muktinath to Jomsom. Along the way, you will enjoy sweeping views of the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges.

Lunch: We will stop for a relaxing lunch at either Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang, or Ekle Bhatti.

Arrival: The drive typically takes about 3 hours, depending on road conditions.

Accommodation: Overnight at a hotel near the Jomsom Airport. After 12:00 noon Jomsom is a windy area.

The Celebration (Farewell Dinner): To celebrate your successful summit of Chulu west Peak and the completion of the trek, we will host a farewell gathering. This is the traditional time for gratuities (tips) for your hardworking trekking staff and team members. Enjoy a celebratory dinner and party with your crew to mark the end of an incredible Himalayan adventure!                Complete the Trek.

Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Hotel at Jomsom Bazaar.

The Flight: After an early breakfast, take a scenic 20 to 25 minute morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara to save the time and Himalayan panorama.

Aerial Views: During this short but spectacular flight, you will enjoy bird’s-eye views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges, the iconic "fishtail"  Machhapuchhre, the deep Kali Gandaki Valley, and the lakeside city of Pokhara.

Arrival: Upon landing at Pokhara Airport, a private hotel vehicle will be waiting to transport you. Transfer to your Lakeside star hotel (as per your booking). Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink at the reception during check-in.

Free Afternoon: The rest of the day is yours to relax time. You can choose from the many excellent restaurants along the lake for lunch and dinner.

Breakfast with hot drinks.  3-star hotel at Pokhara.

Free Day in Pokhara (Relaxation & Discovery): Today is a flexible day for you to enjoy the charm of Pokhara at your own pace. After the intensity of the trek and summit, you can choose how to spend your time:

Option 1: Pure Relaxation: Late Breakfast: Sleep in and enjoy a slow breakfast at a lakeside café.
