About this trek: The Ghorepani Poon-Hill, trek is a fantastic, for short-duration option in the Annapurna region of western Nepal, near from Pokhara. The first leg of the journey to Ghorepani and Poon Hill follows a popular and vibrant trekking route. Watching the sun rise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range Himalayas from an altitude of 3,210 meters is a life-changing experience.

If you trek in the spring (March–April), you will get to walk through blooming forests that turn the hillsides vibrant red and pink colour’s rhododendron. During the trek, you can get chance to stay in traditional Gurung and Magar villages at Ulleri, Ghorapani Deaurali and Ghandruk villages a wonderful human element to the natural beauty with warm hospitality.

Highlights the journey: Your journey will be begins at Ulleri village (1,961m), following a scenic drive from Pokhara. The trail ascends through lush forests of rhododendron, oak, and pine toward the famous Poon Hill view tower (3,210m). which is the highest elevation for this trek. The return journey takes you through Tadapani and descends into the iconic Ghandrung Gurung village, where you will catch your return drive to Pokhara.

Ghorapani Poon-Hill: Ghorapani Poon-Hill is one of the best places for the panoramic views of Himalaya. This is one of the busy and easy treks in Nepal. In the peak season this trekking route will be really busy with Thousands of trekkers from different parts of the world.  

There are several small hotels and lodges at this region, some hotels and lodges are not comfortable and delicious meals, which we can’t recommended for our clients. Your guide will be select a comfortable room for your overnight stay.

 

• High Demand: The months of March to May (Spring) and September to November (Autumn) bring thousands of trekkers. Popular stops like Ghorepani and Tadapani have a limited number of lodges.

• The First Come First Served: Reality: Many tea houses prioritize groups with guides because they have long-standing relationships. Independent trekkers often find themselves sleeping in dining halls if they arrive late without a reservation.

• Better Rooms: Your guide will be booking early secures rooms with "attached bathrooms" or better views as possible.

Emergency Helicopter Evacuation: Your safety is our absolute priority. In the event of serious illness or injury, our guides are trained to act immediately. They will maintain constant communication with our Kathmandu-based agency to coordinate a rapid response. Helicopter rescues are reserved for life-threatening situations.

100% Emergency only, not a fake rescue: We can arrange a helicopter evacuation from any point on the trail back to Kathmandu within a few hours (weather permitting). To ensure a smooth and life-saving rescue, we require all our guests to have travel insurance that specifically covers helicopter rescue and medical evacuation. Our team will handle all the logistics with your insurance provider and the helicopter operators so that you can focus entirely on recovery.

Travel Insurance: Unfortunate illness or injury can happen to anyone, anywhere. Your safety is paramount. Because ground transport to the nearest clinic can be slow, we rely on rapid aerial response.

•    Helicopter Rescue from 'nearest place' Kathmandu or Pokhara offers the fastest rescue service but is extremely expensive.

•    Action Required: We strongly advise you to issue a 'comprehensive travel insurance policy' from your home country or in Kathmandu. Your policy must specifically cover emergency helicopter evacuation and medical expenses.

Himalayan panoramic views: From Ghorepani Poon Hill, you can view a spectacular panorama that includes the Kali Gandaki Valley, the Upper Mustang region, and the peaks near the Tibet border if the weather is clear.
Above 8,000m. Himalayan peaks are Dhaulagiri I (8,167m.) Annapurna I (8,091m.) Manaslu (8,163m.)

On the West: The entire Dhaulagiri range (I to V), along with mountains like Gurja, Mukut, Tukche Peak, Thapa peak and Dhampus Peak.

On the East: Annapurna range (I to IV), Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli, Mardi peak, Fluted peak the iconic Machhapuchhere (Fish Tail), Nilgiri, Manaslu, and many other giants like Ganggapurna, Glacier Dom, and Lamjung Himal.

Safety Note - Animal Caravans:  In the Ghorapani region, you will frequently encounter caravans of Mules transporting goods. If you hear bells ringing in the distance, start looking for a wide spot in the trail to step aside immediately. It’s much easier to find a safe spot early than to scramble when the caravan is right on top of you. Always move to the mountainside (the inner wall) of the trail and wait for the animals to pass. Never stand on the cliff-side edge. 

đź“… Best Trekking seasons and weather:

Spring (March – May): Trekking at Mt. Everest Khumbu region, one of the best times is spring for the spectacular clear views. The stable weather brings excellent visibility. In this season rare flowers like rhododendrons and other various wildflowers are found in full blossom in their brightest colours.

Autumn (September-November): For this region Autumn has one of the spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains and high Himalayas. Perfect temperatures make trekking days even more enjoyable.

Winter (December – February): Best panorama of your life. the air is cold and dry, the haze disappears, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges looking sharp and clear. Temperatures drop significantly, especially at night and in the early morning. 

Sometime snowing, due to "black ice" in the shadows or melting snow that refreezes overnight, the jungle trails can be slippery. 

🍽️ Practical Detail and Trekking services:

Permits and Fees: For Ghorapani Poon-Hill region, not required a trekking permit, you need Annapurna conservation entry permit and a TIMS card (Trekkers' Information Management System). We will handle the arrangement of these for you. Local government Municipality entry fees will be managed and arranged by your trekking guide on the spot.

Trekking Accommodation: Ghorapani Poon-Hill  to Ghandrung region, there are several small hotels lodges and restaurants are available. During your journey, you will stay in charming local hotel or lodges on a bed-and-breakfast basis. While mountain facilities are simpler than those in Kathmandu and Pokhara, they offer cozy atmosphere and the legendary warmth of Himalayan hospitality.

Daily meals during the Trek: Each lodge or small restaurant you will get vegetarian or non veg. dishes, different kinds of breakfast set, lunch and dinner. Authentic Nepalese Dal Bhat, Tarkari, chapati, Tibetan breads, momos, Stew, pasta, noodles, pizza, several items of fresh organic vegetables, potatoes, meats, eggs, soups, hot and cold drinks, which you can check at menu. Your guide will assist in arranging delicious lunches and dinners daily.

Domestic Flight: To maximize your time in the mountains and avoid several days of strenuous trekking, this itinerary includes domestic flights 20 to 25 minutes, between Kathmandu and Pokhara. 

Transportation: To ensure your arrival and departure are as smooth as possible, we provide private vehicle car, van or bus as group size, transfers for all your airport needs.

Trekking Guide: We provide an experienced guide who knows the region well and can secure the best restaurants, lodges, and guest houses, ensuring your safety and service. Your trekking guide will always check the menu and advise on the freshest and most readily available options before you place your order.

Porter Services (Optional): We highly recommend hiring a porter for added comfort. This allows you to walk with a lighter daypack and better enjoy the scenery. If you are physically fit and prefer to carry your own equipment and gear, you are welcome to trek without a porter.

Your Daily Trekking Routine: 

Life on the trail follows a peaceful, structured rhythm designed to keep you energized and immersed in the landscape.

The Morning Call: Your day begins gently. Early in the morning, your guide will bring a hot cup of tea or coffee directly to your room, followed by a bowl of warm water for washing. After freshening up and packing your duffel bag, you’ll head to the dining hall. A fresh, warm breakfast is served as you take in the morning sun hitting the surrounding peaks.

The Trail & Midday Break: We maintain a steady, comfortable pace throughout the day, allowing plenty of time for scenic strolls, photography, and cultural immersion. Your guide will introduce you to local life through visits traditional villages.
Lunch (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM): Enjoy a freshly prepared hot meal and drinks. Afterward, take an hour to relax and digest before we begin the afternoon leg of our journey.

Afternoon Arrival & Evening Relaxation: Upon reaching the day’s destination, your guide will handle your hotel or lodge check-in. Once you’ve settled into your room, the late afternoon is yours to enjoy. Relax in the heated dining hall with hot drinks, biscuits, and local cheese. You’ll place your dinner order early to ensure a fresh meal at your preferred time.

Evening Briefing: During dinner, your guide will recap the day’s highlights and provide a detailed briefing on the terrain and plan for the following morning.

Trekking equipment checklist: For this easy and short trek, we suggest you take along with you: Trekking boots, light shoes / trainers, socks (x 3) caps, hand gloves, warm or fibre pile jacket, windproof jacket & trouser, fleece or sweater, shirts (x 2), long and short trekking trousers (and /or long skirt for women), waterproof poncho or umbrella, sun hat, sun glass, snow goggles, underwear etc.

Other essential items: Kitbag and padlock, small rucksack, warm sleeping bag with liner, water bottle (1 litre capacity), head torch, personal first aid, sun cream (factor 15+) towel & wash kit, whistle, passport, passport-size photographs, plastic bags, money belt.

Optional: Camera (with high-capacity memory cards and extra batteries), trekking poles / walking sticks, binoculars, notebook, pen etc.

Sleeping bag: We strongly suggest bringing your own warm sleeping bag with an inner liner. Because guest house / lodges blankets are not always warm and clean enough to meet your personal standards. If you, doesn’t have sleeping bag you can buy or hire at Kathmandu as your size.

Daily Itinerary

Warm Welcome: Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport, Our representative will meet you at the airport terminal with a personalized sign, handling your luggage, welcome you with colourful flowers, drive to star hotel as your booking. Upon arrival at your hotel, you will be served a refreshing welcome drink at reception while our team assists with your check-in.

First Evening & Briefing: In the evening, you can enjoy dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant. During this time, our Tour Manager will conduct a comprehensive briefing, covering your trekking itinerary, safety protocols, and any other essential information for your upcoming adventure.

After breakfast at your hotel, the day is yours to explore the vibrant culture of Kathmandu. You may choose to, Wander through the bustling bazaar to pick up last-minute trekking gear or souvenirs.

About Kathmandu: Kathmandu is a living gallery of ancient history, where seven UNESCO World Heritage sites are packed within a single valley. A heritage tour here takes you through the "Three Kingdoms," sacred riverbanks, and hilltop stupas that define Nepal's spiritual and architectural legacy.

Heritage tours at Kathmandu: After breakfast, the city guide will pick you up at hotel for sightseeing at world heritage list by UNESCO at different places. Heritage tours beginning short drive to Swyambhu nath stupa, which is oldest Buddhist stupa in the world, build 2,000 years ago. Visit around the stupa, offering the butter lamps for your good Karma and future for all. 

Swyambhu stupa: Swayambhu Mahachaitya, also known as the "Monkey Temple," sits on a hill overlooking the valley. It is one of the most recognizable symbols of Nepal, characterized by its all-seeing Buddha eyes.

  • Panoramic Views: Offers a 360-degree view of the Kathmandu Valley, especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset.
  • Religious Harmony: A unique site where Hindu shrines and Buddhist monasteries coexist side-by-side.

Bhouda Stupa: Boudha Stupa, is one of the largest spherical stupas in the world. It serves as the spiritual hub for the Tibetan Buddhist community in Nepal.

  • Pilgrimage Route: Join hundreds of pilgrims in "Kora," the ritual of walking clockwise around the massive white dome while spinning prayer wheels.
  • Monastery Hub: Surrounded by over 50 Tibetan monasteries, the air is often filled with the sound of deep chanting and ringing bells.
  • Mandala Design: The entire structure is a 3D representation of the Buddhist cosmos, with 13 steps leading to the spire representing the stages of enlightenment.

Lunch: You can take lunch and enjoy the beautiful view of Bhouda stupa. After lunch drive to Kathmandu Durbar square.

Kathmandu Durbar square: The Durbar square is the historic epicenter of the city, where kings were once crowned. It remains a vibrant public space where ancient rituals are still performed daily.

  • Kumari Ghar: The residence of the "Living Goddess," a young girl worshipped as a manifestation of the goddess Taleju.
  • Hanuman Dhoka: The old royal palace complex, featuring numerous courtyards and a museum dedicated to Nepal's monarchy.
  • Taleju Temple: A magnificent 16th-century temple that stands as the tallest structure in the square, traditionally open to the public only once a year.

After Heritage tours, walk from New Road to Thamel for dinner and back to hotel.

Today is going to be a fantastic day! You’ll be flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara, known for its incredible scenery. Your first night will be spent in a peaceful countryside lodge at Ulleri village, where you can relax and take in the stunning views of Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail).

Morning flight: Your guide will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast for the drive to Kathmandu airport. The flight to Pokhara takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes. Pokhara known as a trekker’s paradise, the journey offers incredible views; be sure to sit on the right side of the aircraft for the best vista of the Annapurna range.

Drive to Ulleri: After lunch, you will travel by private vehicle from Pokhara to Ulleri village (alt. 1,961m). The journey takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. Please note that the road becomes quite rough after Naya Pul. You will spend your first night in Ulleri, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail).

About Ulleri Village: Ulleri is a charming village surrounded by real nature and breath taking Himalayan panoramas. Here, you will be welcomed by the friendly Gurung and Magar communities. The village offers several lodges with their own restaurants, and your guide will select a comfortable room for your overnight stay.
 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks. Lodging at Ulleri village.  

Your First Trekking Day: As this is your first day trekking in the mountains, there’s no need to hurry. Take your time and enjoy the panorama! The route from Ulleri to Ghorepani Deurali is one of the most beautiful, passing through several small teahouses and lush rhododendron forests. If you are trekking in March or April, "You'll be walking through forests of Nepal's national flower, the rhododendron, which paints the hills in shades of red and pink."

The jourenys: Today marks your first day trekking in the mountains, and you will truly enjoy the unspoiled nature and mountain panoramas. After breakfast at the lodge, please pack your backpack and prepare your duffel bag for the porters. You will begin with an ascent to Naya Thanti for a lunch stop. After a short rest, the trek continues through lush rhododendron forests until you reach Ghorepani Deurali.

About Ghorepani Deurali: Situated at an elevation of 2,860m, Ghorepani Deurali serves as a major trekking junction. It is the gateway to the famous Poon Hill viewpoint, where visitors can enjoy breath taking Himalayan vistas. The village offers several lodges with their own restaurants, and your guide will select a comfortable room for your overnight stay.

Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner. : Lodging ar Ghorapani Deaurali.  Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

 

Exploration Poon Hill: Start your morning with a warm sip of tea or coffee, grab your headlamp, and begin the ascent to the Poon Hill viewpoint. Located at an elevation of 3,210m. the hike from your lodge takes about two hours at a steady, relaxed pace. Poon Hill is a world-famous trekking hub for sunrise views over the Himalayas; you will join fellow travelers from around the globe to witness the first light hitting the peaks.

"It can be quite windy and cold at the summit while waiting for the sun, so be sure to wear extra layers!"

Himalayan Panoramas: On a clear day, the view from Poon Hill is unmatched. You can see across the deep Kali Gandaki Valley toward the rugged Upper Mustang region and the distant peaks near the Tibetan border.

The 8,000m. Giants: Witness three of the world’s fourteen highest peaks: Dhaulagiri I (8,167m), Annapurna I (8,091m), and Manaslu (8,163m).

To the West: The entire Dhaulagiri range (I to V), including Gurja, Mukut, Tukuche Peak, Thapa Peak, and Dhampus Peak.

To the East: The Annapurna range (I to IV), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Mardi Peak, Fluted Peak, and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). You can also spot Nilgiri, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, and Lamjung Himal.

Please note: "Make sure your camera battery is fully charged! The cold morning air can drain batteries quickly, and you will want to take many photos of this 360-degree view."

While at the top of Poon Hill, you can enjoy some biscuits and hot drinks as you soak in the panoramic views and capture photos to last a lifetime. Once you’ve finished taking in the scenery, take your time walking back down to your lodge for a well-deserved breakfast.

Day time Exploration: After a warm breakfast, take some time to relax and recharge until lunch. In the afternoon, grab your daypack and camera for an exploration of the Mohare ridge. This is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in nature and soak in the beautiful mountain vistas. You will return to Deurali in the late afternoon to relax at your lodge and dinner.

The trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani is often described as the most "magical" day of the circuit. While the climb to Poon Hill gets all the fame, the trail to Tadapani takes you through deep, ancient forests and over high ridges with spectacular mountain views.

Morning Trek: From the Ghorepani Deurali, the trail pass through ridge with beautiful views at lush rhododendron forest. You’ll descend steep stone steps alongside a stream and several small waterfalls. You will eventually reach Banthanti, a small settlement tucked into the cliffs, which is the perfect spot for a tea or lunch break.

Afternoon Trek: After lunch at Banthanti, the trail becomes a bit of a flat (a little up, a little down). You'll cross a small wooden bridge over a stream before a final 30- 45 minute uphill climb to reach Tadapani.

Tadopani: Tadapani is much smaller and quieter than Ghorepani Deaurali. It sits on a high saddle surrounded by dense forest "Touching the Mountains": Tadapani offers arguably the best "close-up" views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). They feel so close you could almost reach out and touch the glaciers.

The trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk is one of the most pleasant and "leg-friendly" sections.This is largely a descending trail through beautiful landscapes.

Morning Trek: The trail starts with a fairly steep descent through a thick, ancient rhododendron and oak forest. This is the best place to spot Grey Langur monkeys leaping through the trees.

The path is mostly well-maintained stone steps. If it has rained recently, watch your step, as the mossy stones in the shade can be slippery. About halfway down, you’ll reach a small clearing called Baisi Kharkha (Buffalo Pasture). This is a great spot to grab a tea and look back up at the ridge you just descended from.

Ghandrung village: Ghandrung is second largest Gurung family village in Nepal. Once there was 700 houses. At an elevation of 1,940m. Ghandruk serves as a "living museum." Your notes capture the scale and prestige of this village perfectly. You will arrive by lunchtime, you have the whole afternoon to explore.There are several tourist standard restaurants, hotels, lodges and home stay with clean room with W.C. and hot shower are available.  

World-Renowned Soldiers: The village is famous for its "Gorkhali" heritage. Many households have fathers, sons, or grandfathers who served in the British or Indian Gorkha Regiments.

The "Bravery" Connection: You will often see retired soldiers in the village square wearing their traditional hats (Dhaka Topi), happy to share stories of their service.

Architecture: The "700 houses" are famous for their slate roofs and stone-paved alleys, designed to withstand the heavy monsoon rains of the Himalayas. From here you can get beautiful views of Annapurna south, Hiuchuli and Fish Tail.

Farewell to the Team: This evening is the traditional time to say goodbye to your porters and guide. If you are satisfied with the service and the incredible effort of your team, it is customary to offer tips as a gesture of thanks for their hard work and dedication in helping you reach your goals.

The drive from Ghandruk to Pokhara marks the transition from the high Himalayan heartland back to the lakeside city. As the road network has expanded, this has become a popular way to end the trek, saving about a full day of walking.

đźš— Trip Overview: After breakfast at Ghandrung, pack your luggage and put on 4WD jeep. The distance is approximately 57 km (35 miles). But it takes about 3 to 4 hours, because rough unpaved mountain road. 

Pokhara: Middle of the day you will reach at Pokhara Fewa lake side the city of ''Trekkers Paradise'' You will stay at 3-star hotel as your booking. Welcome drinks at the reception, check-in the room.

There are several restaurants for your lunch and dinner, which you can choose. Afternoon you can enjoy just relax or visit the lake side bazaar.

Free Day in Pokhara (Relaxation & Discovery): Today is a flexible day for you to enjoy the charm of Pokhara at your own pace. After the mountains trek from Ghorapani Poon-Hill, you can choose how to spend your time:

Option 1: Pure Relaxation - Late Breakfast: Sleep in and enjoy a slow breakfast at a lakeside café.

Spa & Massage: Treat your tired muscles to a traditional Ayurvedic massage or a deep-tissue trekking recovery session at one of the many high-quality spas.

Lakeside Stroll: Wander through the colorful shops, bookstores, and handicraft boutiques along the shore of Phewa Lake.

Option 2: Light Exploration-Boating on Phewa Lake: Rent a colorful wooden boat (Doonga) and row out to the Tal Barahi Temple, located on a peaceful island in the center of the lake.

World Peace Pagoda: Take a short boat ride across the lake followed by a gentle 45-minute hike up to the massive white stupa for a panoramic view of the city and the mountains you just climbed.

International Mountain Museum: Visit this fascinating museum to learn more about the history of Himalayan climbing and the local mountain cultures.

Option 3: The Annapurna Cable Car Experience: Take a smooth, 7-minute ride on the modern Annapurna Cable Car. This scenic journey glides above the lush hills, whisking you quickly from the lakeside area up to the Sarangkot Viewpoint.

Panoramic Views: From the observation tower at the top, you will be treated to a spectacular, 360-degree view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, as well as Mount Manaslu and several other towering Himalayan peaks from a unique perspective.

Dining with a View: You can choose to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the hilltop restaurant, surrounded by one of the most beautiful mountain panoramas in the world.

Evening: Enjoy a final farewell dinner at a lakeside restaurant with live music, reflecting on your incredible journey to the Ghorapani Poon-Hill..

Morning Departure: After your final breakfast in Pokhara, you will begin the drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus.

The Journey: Travel by comfortable tourist bus for the 200 km journey. The route follows the scenic Trisuli River, offering views of terraced fields and rural Nepali life.

Lunch: A scheduled stop for lunch at a riverside restaurant along the highway.

Arrival & Welcome: Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink at the reception during the check-in process.

Evening: The evening is yours to enjoy. You may choose  any of the city's many excellent restaurants for your night after trek in Nepal.

Total Driveing Time: Approximately 5 to 6 hours (depending on traffic).

Last-Minute Shopping: You have plenty of time to wander through the markets of Thamel or local boutiques to find the perfect souvenirs for your loved ones, such as pashminas, singing bowls, local tea or Hiumalayan Shilagit for you.

After breakfast at your hotel, city guide will pick you up. You will follow the Arniko Highway (NH03), 15 km. which is a well-paved road heading east. As you leave the dense city centre, the landscape opens up slightly before you reach the ancient gates of Bhaktapur for breakfast and famous ''JuJu Dau''

Heritage tours at Bhaktapur:  Bhaktapur Durbar Square is often called an "Open Air Museum" and is the most well-preserved of the three valley kingdoms. The area is largely car-free, making it perfect for a walking tour. You can visit at Bhaktapur:

  • 55-Window Palace: This 15th-century masterpiece features incredible woodcarvings and was once the seat of royalty.
  • Nyatapola Temple: Standing in the nearby Taumadhi Square, this is the tallest pagoda-style temple in Nepal, known for its five tiers and guardian statues.
  • Pottery Square: A short walk away, you can watch local artisans spinning clay on traditional wheels and drying thousands of yogurt pots in the sun.
  • Golden Gate: This serves as the entrance to the main courtyard of the palace and is considered one of the most beautiful pieces of metalwork in the world.

After Heritage tours drive to Patan for lunch.

Patan Heritage tours: Patan Darbar Square located in the city of Lalitpur, is famous for its concentration of fine arts and bronze craftsmanship.

  • Krishna Mandir: A stunning stone temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, built entirely of stone with intricate carvings depicting scenes from the Mahabharata.
  • Patan Museum: Housed inside a former royal palace, this museum is widely regarded as one of the best in South Asia for its collection of sacred bronze and copper statues.
  • The Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar): A unique Buddhist monastery located just north of the square, famous for its gold-plated facade and peaceful inner courtyard.
  • Taleju Bell: A massive bronze bell used in ancient times to alert the king to the grievances of the citizens.

After the Heritage tours drive back to hotel at Kathmandu, re-fresh for dinner.

Farewell party: Evening our representative will take you for a farewell Nepali typical dinner with a culture program.  

  • Cultural Program: Experience the beauty of Nepal’s diversity through a live performance featuring traditional music and ethnic dances from different regions of the country. After dinner back to hotel.
