18 days Everest base camp / Kala Patthar:

Dear all trekkers,
Namaste! A warm welcome to trekkers from every corner of the globe. We are delighted to invite you to explore the breath-taking Mt. Everest base camp / Kala Patthar trek. Which is a true high-altitude adventure for those who love Himalaya, untouched nature, and the serene mountain environment.

About this trek: Mt. Everest (alt. 8,848.86m.) is the world highest Himalayan peak, located at east Nepal, Khumbu region. Each year Thousands of trekkers are trekking here to see the world highest peak.

The Khumbu region is unique because it balances extreme high-altitude wilderness with a very well-established lodging /Teahouse infrastructure. This lodging (Tea House Trekking) style is makes the EBC route accessible to thousands of trekkers.
You don't need to carry tents or weeks' worth of food, allowing you to focus on your personal gear and physical endurance.

Everest Base Camp: You can not see the summit of Mt. Everest; you can see only the Khumbu icefall from Base Camp. Khumbu icefall is most dangerous stages of the Everest climb.

Base Camp is actually located on the Khumbu Glacier,at the high of 5,364 meters, standing on a mix of ice, rock debris Because the glacier is constantly (though slowly) moving each year.

If you trek during the Spring season (late March to May), Base Camp transforms into a bright yellow city. Thousands of tents are pitched here for climbers, guides, and doctors. During the Autumn season, the camp is much quieter and often empty of climbers, providing a more serene and "untouched" mountain environment.

Kala Patthar: Kala Patthar is the true "photographic" climax of Everest base camp trek. The name Kala Patthar translates to "Black Rock" in Nepali and Hindi. Located just above the EBC elevation of 5,545meters. From Kala Patthar, you can see a "bird's eye view" of the entire glacial valley.

From the top of Kala Patthar, you can see face to face the South Face of Everest, South Col and the famous Hillary Step area near the summit. Kala patthar is a perfect place for 360-degree panorama.

When you reached at the top of Kala patthar, you won't just be looking at the Himalaya you will feel as though you are standing among them. You are also surrounded by other giants: Pumo Ri, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the beautiful Ama Dablam in the distance.

Highlights journey: The journey begins with a legendary flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla (2,840m.) Often called the "Gateway to Everest," this flight offers your first spectacular views of the Himalayan peaks and sets the stage for the trek ahead.

From Lukla, you actually descend initially toward Phakding village. You follow the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several high suspension bridges with prayer-flag-draped including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge at Larcha Dhoban, that soar over deep Dud koshi river gorges.

In - route Just past Monjo village, you enter the Sagarmatha National Park (established in 1976) declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. UNESCO recognized the region for its unique blend of natural beauty and Sherpa culture, as well as its ecological importance. The National Park protects rare wildlife. If you look closely during your trek, you can see the Himalayan Tahr or the elusive Musk Deer grazing on the cliffs.

Namche Bazaar (3,440m): Namche is the vibrant "capital" of the Khumbu region. It is a beautiful Sherpa village. For centuries, it was a meeting point for Tibetan traders crossing the Nangpa La pass and lowland merchants. Today, that trade mostly changed in trekking shops, lodges, restaurants and local bazaar. At Namche Bazaar, there is trekking Shops, Reliable Wi-Fi services, ATM, Cafes, bakeries, and local markets.

The trail leads you to the magnificent Tyangboche Monastery. Surrounded by several Himalayan peaks. Tyangboche monastery is the spiritual centre of the Khumbu region and a perfect place for 360-degree panorama.

If you trek in the Spring, the forests around Tyangboche explode with the bright red and pink colours of the Himalayan Rhododendron. Trek continue passes through Pangboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Khumbu glacier, Gorakshap to ascent top of Kala patthar.

Journey back to Home: After the high-altitude intensity of Base Camp and Kala Patthar, you'll drop down to Pangboche. Instead of staying on the main highway toward Tyangboche, your itinerary branches off to Phortse village. This trail is often quieter and offers incredible views across the valley toward Tyangboche Monastery sitting on its ridge. Phortse is known as the "Village of Climbers” almost every household has a family member who has summited Everest.

From Phortse, you’ll head to Khumjung village. This is a beautiful, traditional Sherpa village sitting in a hidden valley. You can visit the first school built by Sir Edmund Hillary at Khumjung. Another chance to see a "Yeti scalp" and experience the serene atmosphere of the high-altitude Buddhist culture.

From Khumjung, it’s a short walk back down into Namche Bazaar, descend back along the same scenic trails Following the Dudh Koshi River one last time, you’ll return to Lukla for your flight back to Kathmandu, carrying memories that will last a lifetime.

Please Note: for all the specific route details, hotel or lodging and trip information, please follow the ''day - by -day itinerary'' at the bottom of this site. In the peak season this trekking route will be busy with Thousands of trekkers from different parts of the world. Safety Note - Animal Caravans: In the Khumbu (Everest), you will frequently encounter caravans of Yaks, Jopkyos, and Mules transporting goods. If you hear bells ringing in the distance, start looking for a wide spot in the trail to step aside immediately. It’s much easier to find a safe spot early than to scramble when the caravan is right on top of you. Always move to the mountainside (the inner wall) of the trail and wait for the animals to pass. Never stand on the cliff-side edge.

Meals (Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner) Stay at: Tent. Walking: approximately 6 to 7 hours. High gain: 520 meters.

The trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep 5,164m. is the final approach before reaching Everest Base Camp / Kala patthar. While it is one of the shortest sections in terms of distance, it is often considered one of the most mentally and physically demanding due to the extreme altitude.

The Journey Above 5,000m:  After breakfast in Lobuche, we begin our trek toward Gorak Shep. This is one of the most unique stretches of the journey, as you are now walking above 5,000m. at Khumbu glacier, in the thin, dry air of the high Himalayas. It is very common to feel winded, dizzy, or to develop a headache during this trek.

As you approach Gorak Shep, the trail crosses the moraine and Glacier. This is often the most technical part of the day, involving rocky, uneven ground that demands focus and steady, slow movement.

Key Advice: Do not try to rush this section. Rushing at this altitude significantly increases the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Take your time be slowly step by step. Drink 3 - 4 litters of water. The air is extremely dry, and dehydration exacerbates altitude symptoms. Eat simple, high-energy snacks (nuts, chocolate, dried fruit) to keep your blood sugar steady. You may find your appetite suppressed by the altitude, but try to eat something nutritious in the communal dining room upon arrival.

Gorak Shep: We aim to reach Gorak Shep in time for lunch. Gorak Shep is the launching point for two major objectives: the hike to Everest Base Camp and the sunrise climb to Kala Patthar. This small settlement is the final stopping point before Everest Base camp / Kala patthar.

After lunch just relax at you room keep warm your body, early dinner go for bed, tomorrow early morning you have to ascent to Kala patthar ridge.

Meals (Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner) Stay at: Lodge. Walking: approximately 3 to 4 hours. High gain: 224 meters.

The trek from Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar is arguably the most important climb of the Everest Base Camp journey. While Everest Base Camp is the "destination," Kala Patthar is where you actually get the iconic, unobstructed view of Mt. Everest's summit and other several Himalayan views in 360-degree.

Ascent to Kala patthar: Wake up before 4:00 in the freezing dark of Gorak Shep. Sip a hot ginger tea or coffee and fuel up quickly. Switch on your headlamp and begin the steep, zigzagging path. The trail is made of dark, loose rock and scree. At 5,545m. you are breathing half the oxygen you’d have at sea level. Pace yourself, expect to stop every 10–15 steps to catch your breath. It will take roughly 2 to 3 hours to reach the top.

The Summit: The Kala patthar Top 5,545m. is marked by a cluster of boulders draped in colorful prayer flags. It is often extremely windy and freezing cold tempreture most trekkers stay for only 15–30 minutes to capture photos before the cold sets in.

The Panorama: This is the ultimate "face-to-face" view of Mt. Everest. From this ridge, you can look directly down at the Everest Base Camp tents, Khumbu Icefall and glacier. The 360-degree view includes Pumori, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and even Makalu in the distance.

Descend to Labuche: Descend the rocky trail back to Gorakshap lodge. Enjoy a well-earned bowl of hot garlic soup (great for altitude) or a warm drink. Rest your legs for an hour. Pack your gear and begin the trek back to Labuche.

Meals (Breakfast + pack Lunch & Dinner) Stay at: hotel / Lodge. Walking: approximately 6 to 7 hours.

The trek from Lobuche (4,940m.) down to Pangboche (3,930m.) is one of the most rewarding stretches of the Everest Base Camp return journey. Since you are descending 1,010 meters in a single day, you’ll likely feel a massive "oxygen high" as the air thickens and the landscape transforms from desolate rock to alpine greenery.

Morning Trek: The day begins with a flat walk along the glacial moraine before reaching the Thukla for tea break. From memorials (chortens) pass, you’ll tackle a steep, rocky descent down to Pheriche for lunch. Pheriche, a windy village located in a broad valley. There is HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association) clinic which you can visit.

Afternoon Trek: After lunch and short break, an easy trek continues to Pangboche. You’ll see the first signs of hardy vegetation and shrubs. Pangboche is split into two parts: Walim (Lower) and Tealim (Upper) villages.

There are several cozy lodges with own restaurant, your guide will select a comfortable room for your overnight stay. From Pangboche you will see giant view of Ama Dablam.

Meals (Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner) Stay at: Lodge. Walking: approximately 6 to 7 hours. High loss: 1,010 meters.

The trek from Pangboche (3,930m.) to Phortse (3,810m.) is often called the "Sherpa Heritage Trail." While most trekkers stay on the lower main highway toward Tyangboche, this high-contour route offers a quieter, more authentic experience with some of the best panoramic views in the Khumbu region.

Morning Trek: This is the "wow" part of the trek. The trail hugs the side of the mountain high above the Imja Khola river. You’ll start by heading toward Upper Pangboche. Instead of descending toward the river (which leads to Tyangboche), you take the trail that stays high on the western side of the valley.

Between Pangboche to Fortse there is not any tea house for lunch, you have to trek Fortse for lunch.

Fortse village: Fortse is the climbers and Everest summiteers village, which is unique because it sits on a plateau at the junction of the Khumbu and Gokyo valleys, making it feel like a "hidden" agricultural island in the sky. Recent days there are several lodges for your overnight stay and meals.

Afternoon: After lunch just relax at your room, if you like you can explore the village, where you will see musk deer often seen grazing in the birch and juniper shrubs along this stretch and national bird ''Danphe'' multi-colored feathers.

Meals (Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner) Walking:  approximately 3 to 4 hours. Night Stay at: Lodge. High loss: 120 meters.

The trek from Phortse (3,810m.) to Khumjung (3,790m.) is a classic "Himalayan roller coaster" route. While the villages are almost at the same elevation, the journey between them involves a deep plunge down to a river and a steep climb.

This route is significantly more scenic and peaceful than the main highway via Tengboche, offering a true look at Sherpa life and high-altitude wildlife.

Morning Trek: The trek begins with a long, steep descent from the Phortse village, through a lush forest of rhododendron, pine, and birch. You’ll reach the bottom at Phortse Tenga, a small riverside cluster of lodges next to the Dudh Koshi river.

After crossing the suspension bridge, the "hard work" begins. You face a zig-zagging, steep ascent of nearly 400 meters to reach the Mong La pass (3,973m). Mong La is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Khumbu. There is a large white chorten at the pass, and the view looking back at Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and the Phortse village you just left is world-class. It’s the perfect place for a tea break.

From Mong La, the trail becomes much easier. It contours around the hillside on a wide, relatively flat path to Sanasa, which you came before. From Sanasa trek to Khumjung village.

Lunch: If you like you can lunch at Sanasa or continue to Khumjung village.

Khumjung village: Khumjung is often described as one of the most beautiful and authentic Sherpa villages in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Perched at an altitude of approximately 3,790 meters, it sits in a hidden valley just above Namche Bazaar, framed by the towering peaks of Ama Dablam and Thamserku. If Namche is the bustling commercial hub of the Everest region, Khumjung is its quieter, more traditional soul.

Khumjung has some of the best-equipped lodges in the region. Since you’re lower down, you might find more reliable hot showers and even bakeries.

Meals (Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner) Walking:  approximately 3 to 4 hours. Night Stay at: Lodge. High loss: 20 meters.

Morning Trek: After breakfast in Khumjung, you take a short but steady 30 to 45-minute uphill climb and descend Shyangboche airport for rest. Steep descend to Namche Bazaar for lunch.

The Steep Descent: After lunch, we begin the long, steep descent from Namche Bazaar to Larcha Dobhan. We cross the high suspension bridges once more, looking back at the confluence of the rivers at Larcha Dobhan.

Exiting the National Park: We pass through the village of Jorsalle and officially check out of the Sagarmatha National Park before reaching the quiet village of Monjo (2,835m). Monjo is a much quieter place to spend the night compared to Namche. The lodges here are cozy and surrounded by greenery, providing a perfect atmosphere for a restful evening after a long day of downhill trekking.

Meals (Breakfast + Lunch & Dinner) Stay at: Lodge. Walking: approximately 6 to 7 hours. High Loss 945 meters.

After breakfast in Monjo, we begin our final day of trekking. We retrace our steps through the lush valley, passing through Benkar and Phakding, where the landscape is now familiar and the air is warm.

Lunch at Ghat: We will stop for a final trail lunch in the village of Ghat. After lunch, there is one last gentle uphill climb to reach Lukla. Walking through the "Passang Lhamu Gate" marks the official completion of your trekking journey!
