Dear trekkers,
Namaste! A warm welcome to trekkers from every corner of the globe. We are delighted to invite you on a breath-taking journey through the Nar-Phu and Tili Cho lake at Manang region. Experience the serenity of a moderate camping trek through untouched nature and pristine mountain landscapes.
About Nar-Phu region: It is a hidden gem tucked away within the Manang district of Western Nepal. It remains one of the most remote and pristine destinations in the Himalayas, offering an authentic glimpse into "real nature." You are surrounded by rugged terrain and breath-taking views of several beautiful Himalayan peaks.
The area is home to ancient villages where residents maintain a distinct society deeply rooted in traditional Buddhist culture. Unlike the more popular trekking routes, Nar-Phu sees very few visitors.
Currently, tea houses and lodges are scarce. While a few exist, they are basic and may not meet the comfort standards typically expected by international trekkers. In near future it will be better and comfortable for the adventure trekkers.
About the Tilicho Region: The Tilicho Lake and Mesakonto Pass trek is one of the most adventurous and rugged routes in Nepal’s Annapurna region. After leaving Manang village, the trail turns left toward Khangsar village. The lake situated at (alt. 4,920 m.) above the Khangsar Valley the massive Tilicho Peak; it is widely regarded as one of the highest lakes in the world.
The Mesakonto Pass (alt. 5,121 m.) is a remote and less-crowded crossing between the Marshyangdi Valley in Manang and the Kali Gandaki Valley in Jomsom.
Journey Highlights: This trekking begins in Koto village, where the motor road ends. After crossing the Marshyangdi River, the trail follows the Nar Khola valley toward the remote villages of Phu and Nar. Explore the Phu and Nar region, you will then cross the Khang La Pass (5,360 m.) before descending into the Manang Marshyangdi valley, joining the more popular Annapurna circuit trekking routes. Which is really crowed at Manang village.
While the first few days involve trekking through deep gorges with limited vistas, the scenery opens up into spectacular panoramic views once you reach upper valley. For this trek, we provide a full tented camping service for the nine-day stretch between Koto to Khang La Phedi.
After cross the Kang la pass, from Ngawal village onward to Jomsom via Tilicho Lake, lodge-based trekking also possible; however, the final leg remains a significant challenge.
Because there are no teahouses between Tilicho Base Camp and Jomsom Bazaar, trekkers must complete a demanding ascent and a gruelling descent into Jomsom Bazaar in a single day.
For those who choose to continue tented camping, spending a night by the Tili Cho lake offers a truly unique and serene experience, which you never forget.
High passes: During the trek you will cross two high passes
Trekking options: There are three options to complete this trek.
The authentic tented experience: The Nar-Phu remains wonderfully untouched by modern tourism; you won’t find luxury lodges or fine dining in these remote heights. While basic teahouses and local homestays exist, they often fall short of the comfort standards many travellers expect.
To truly embrace the spirit of the Himalayas without compromising on comfort, a fully serviced tented camp is the premier way to experience this wilderness. While a camping trek requires a higher investment than lodge-based trekking, the reward is an unparalleled, private journey through one of Nepal’s most
Panorama from Nar-Phu: The true scale of the Himalayas is best appreciated from high elevations, where the air is thin and the horizons are limitless. Exploring the area around Nar-Phu Village grants you spectacular, front-row views of the towering Kangaru and Himlung peaks. These remote giants dominate the skyline, offering a sense of isolation and grandeur rarely found elsewhere.
Kang La Pass: Reaching the Kang La Pass rewards you with one of the most comprehensive panoramas in the region. From this vantage point, the mountains appear close enough to touch.
You will see: Manaslu, A sweeping look at Annapurna II, III, and IV, along with Gangapurna, Glacier Dom, Lamjung Himal, Pissang peak and Tilicho.
Panorama from Tilicho Lake and Mesakonto Pass: The views from Kang La Pass and Tilic Cho Lake are quite similar, but from the latter, you can see additional peaks such as Chulu East and West.
Descending from Mesakonto Pass toward Yak Kharka, you will encounter a completely different perspective of the Dhaulagiri range, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri, and the peaks along the Mustang-Tibet border.
As you drop into the rain shadow of the Himalayas (Lower Mustang) within the Kali Gandaki Valley, the landscape becomes arid and desert-like. This dramatic shift makes the massive, snow-covered Dhaulagiri appear even more imposing against the backdrop of the rugged brown hills.
Please Note: For specific route details, camping and trip information, please follow the "day-by-day itinerary" at the bottom of this page.
Safety Note - Animal Caravans: Between Koto to Nar-Phu village and Khangsar to Tili Cho base camp you will frequently encounter caravans of Yaks, Jopkyos, and Mules transporting goods.
If you hear bells ringing in the distance, start looking for a wide spot in the trail to step aside immediately. It’s much easier to find a safe spot early than to scramble when the caravan is right on top of you. Always move to the mountainside (the inner wall) of the trail and wait for the animals to pass. Never stand on the cliff-side edge.
High-altitude sickness occurs when your body can’t get enough oxygen because the lower air pressure at higher elevation above 3,000m. when you ascend too quickly during the trek. At High elevation anyone at any time can be suffering from high-altitude sickness which is common, you don’t have to be nervous but please be attention.
Symptoms of altitude: If you feel symptoms of high- altitude (Headache, vomiting, loss your appetite, Dizziness and trouble falling asleep) stop to ascending immediately descend as possible. Eat enough garlic soup, take lots of hot drinks and rest. Next day you will feel better, if not your guide will look for another solution check at H.R.A. (Himalayan Rescue Association) clinic at Manang. In serious cases, clinic will recommend a rescue flight.
Emergency Helicopter Evacuation: Your safety is our absolute priority. In the event of serious illness or injury, our guides are trained to act immediately. They will maintain constant communication with our Kathmandu-based agency to coordinate a rapid response.
We can arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation from any point on the trail back to Kathmandu or Pokhara within a few hours (weather permitting). To ensure a smooth and life-saving rescue, we require all our guests to have travel insurance that specifically covers high-altitude helicopter rescue and medical evacuation.
Our team will handle all the logistics with your insurance provider and the helicopter operators so that you can focus entirely on recovery.
Travel Insurance: Unfortunate illness or injury can happen to anyone, anywhere. In the remote mountain regions where we trek, your safety is paramount. Because ground transport to the nearest clinic can be slow, we rely on rapid aerial response.
Action Required: We strongly advise you to issue a 'comprehensive travel insurance policy' from your home country or in Kathmandu. Your policy must specifically cover emergency helicopter evacuation and medical expenses at high altitudes (up to 5,000m.
Pro Tip: Please Always carry a digital and printed copy of your insurance certificate and the 24-hour emergency contact number for your provider.

Winter (December – February): These seasons present significant challenges for the Kangla pass and Tili Cho, Masokanto pass Annapurna Circuit. In winter, heavy snowfall frequently blocks the Tili Cho, Mesokanto Pass, making the crossing dangerous or impossible.
