Dear all trekkers,
Namaste! Welcome, for an adventure tented camping trek at upper Dolpa to Kalagandaki valley Jomsom region.
Upper Dolpo is one of the remote and restricted trekking region at west Nepal, This trek is allow only for the arrangement camping trek with special permit which is cost higher than other region. There is a trade border from Simen village to Tibet but not official.The local people buy necessary foods, clothing and cattle from Tibet in summer time.

For this trek flight from Nepalgunj to Jufal airport (Dolpa), there is direct motor road until Dolpa Dunai but the road condition is really worse and danger. After the flight trek will start from Jufal airport (alt. 2,475m.) trek pass through small villages, Phoksumdo lake, Shey Gomba, Saldang, Charka,trek will ending at Jomsom airport. 

During the trek, you have to cross three high passes. Some places you may cross cold Himalayan River without bridge too. The upper Dolpa region’s landscape, local houses, farming and culture are same as Tibet. All the local people they believe Buddhism. The local people from upper Dolpa region they follow two different Buddhist religion, Vazarayana and Bon.

1. Nangda la pass 5,350m.

2.Charka pass 5,035m

3.Sangda pass 5,123m. 

At this region, there are several Buddhist monastery, one of the famous and oldest is Shey Gompa, which is not allowed for entery. For details, information please check daily itinerary at the end of this page. Recent days there is motor road between Jomsom to Charka which is helpful for the local people but not good for the such a beautiful nature and environment. 

High altitude sickness and solution: High-altitude sickness occurs when your body can’t get enough oxygen because the lower air pressure at higher elevation above 3,000m. when you ascend too quickly during the trek. At High elevation anyone at any time can be suffering from high-altitude sickness which is common, you don’t have to be nervous but please be attention. 

If you feel symptoms of high – altitude (Headache, vomiting, loss your appetite, Dizziness and trouble falling asleep) stop to ascending immediately descend as soon as possible. Eat enough garlic soup, take lots of hot drinks and rest. Next day you will feel better, if not your guide will look for another solution. If you are really serious, we will arrange a rescue helicopter flight from Pokhara, within a couple of hours to save 100% your life. 

Communication: If some one seriously sick or injured, you have to call at Kathmandu for rescue helicopter. At the upper Dolpa region, mobile network service is not available for calling. We will send satellite phone set with enough balance, extra battery and solar charger for emergency call and service.

Himalayan views: At upper Dolpa region there are not many Himalaya views, which is interesting for landscape and beautiful nature. From Charka pass you can see spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, Tilicho peak and Mustang border Himalayan peaks.

 

📅 Trekking Season and Weather:

Autumn Season (September - November) one of the spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains and high Himalaya. Perfect temperatures for trekking, making days enjoyable.
 
Spring Season (March - May) Spectacular clear views. The stable weather brings excellent visibility. Above 3,000m, beautiful landscape with Himalayan rhododendrons and various wildflowers in full blossom.
 
Winter Season (December to February) In the winter season it is not possible to complete the upper Dolpa trek. But clear skies at low elevations, the air is clean and visibility is excellent. Temperatures drop significantly in the morning and night.

Summer Season (June - August) High rainfall and lush greenery (if you don't mind the rain). Generally, not suitable for trekking. Heavy raining, poor visibility, landslides, and high river levels that may block trekking trails and motor roads.

 

🍽️ Practical Detail and Trekking Services:

Hotel accommodation at Kathmandu and Pokhara: During your stay at Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will stay at 3-star hotel, twin sharing basis room with bed and breakfast services. 

Restaurant and Daily meals: At Kathmandu and Pokhara, there are several restaurants where you can get Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, Nepalese and Continental dishes in veg. or non veg. different kinds of sweet dishes, hot or cold drinks available.

Trekking crew (Nepali staff): Without an experience trekking guide and trekking staff (cook, Sherpa helpers, kitchen boys and porters) any adventure trek is not possible. During the trek, guide and Sherpa helpers will set up all tents, porters will carry all your heavy luggage. Trekking cook and kitchen staff prepare fresh, hot, and delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day for your service. Our entire Nepalese staff team works together even at elevations above 5,000 m. without hesitate.

Daily activities and meals during the trek: Early in the morning, Sherpa and kitchen staff will bring a hot drink (coffee or tea) at your tent, followed by a bowl of warm washing water to freshen up. You can pack up your duffle bag for upcoming journey and join for the breakfast which will be served warm and fresh at the table with scenic panorama of mountains.

In day time, you can stroll around peacefully, take scenic pictures and visit local villages, monasteries or schools with your guide and Sherpas. Fresh and warm lunch with hot drinks will be serve between 11:00 to 13:00 after lunch rest about one hours, than continue the trek.

In the afternoon at the camp, your tent will be set up, and your mattress and luggage will be brought inside the tent. The kitchen staff will bring warm or cold water to clean your face and hands. After freshening up, you can relax in the dining tent with hot drinks, biscuits, and cheese. You will have plenty of time to rest before dinner. Each day cook will prefer fresh buffet dinner, beginning with soup, minimum five cuisine with hot drinks. At dinner time, your guide will ask about the day's trek and explain the program for the next morning.

Please Note:  At high elevation it takes time to prepare hot and fresh lunch, to save the time we provide pack lunch (picnic) with hot juice and tea. 

Flight and Transportation: For this trek we provide Kathmandu / Nepalgunj / Jufal Dolpa flight. After end of the trek for the Himalayan views flight from Jomsom / Pokhara. From Pokhara to Kathmandu drive by tourist bus. For the details please check daily itinerary at the end of this page.

Trekking equipment and accommodation: For this high elevation trek, you need warm equipment and sleeping bag. If you don’t have such, you can hire or buy at Kathmandu as your size. For the tented camping trek, we provide two man sharing double tents or single supplement high altitude tents with double (Foam + waterproof) mattresses, dining tent with folding table and stools, kitchen tent with kitchen utensils, toilet tent, shower tent, staff and porter’s tent. High altitude equipment for the staff and porters. 

Trekking equipment check list: Trekking boots, light shoes / trainers, down or fibre pile jacket, fleece or sweater, shirts (x 2), long and short trekking trousers (and /or long skirt for women), windproof jacket & trouser, waterproof poncho, sun hat, woollen cap, gloves, woollen socks (x 3), underwear.

Other essential items: Kitbag and padlock, small rucksack, down sleeping bag (4 seasons +) with inner liner, water bottle (1 litre capacity), head torch, personal first aid, sun and snow glasses/goggles, sun cream (factor 15+) & lip slave, towel & wash kit, whistle, passport, passport-size photographs, plastic bags, money belt.

Optional: Camera (with high-capacity memory cards and extra batteries), trekking poles / walking sticks, binoculars, notebook, pen etc.

Daily Itinerary

Warm Welcome: Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport, Our representative will meet you at the airport terminal with a personalized sign, handling your luggage, welcome you with colourful flowers, drive to star hotel as your booking. Upon arrival at your hotel, you will be served a refreshing welcome drink at reception while our team assists with your check-in.

First Evening & Briefing: In the evening, you can enjoy dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant. During this time, our Tour Manager will conduct a comprehensive briefing, covering your trekking itinerary, safety protocols, and any other essential information for your upcoming adventure.

Kathmandu is a vibrant hub of culture and heritage, home to some of the world's most significant Buddhist stupas and Hindu temples. Following breakfast, you are free to spend the day exploring the historic sites across Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan.

Getting Around: For longer distances-such as visits to Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, or Swayambhunath, as well as excursions to the neighbouring cities of Bhaktapur and Patan, hiring a taxi is the most convenient option.

Rickshaws & Walking: Within the Kathmandu city centre including Durbar Square, New Road, and the Thamel tourist market, you can enjoy a traditional rickshaw ride (a three-wheeled bicycle) or simply explore the bustling streets on foot.

Important Notes: Please be aware that all UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan require an entry fee for visitors.

Shopping & Souvenirs: Thamel, the city's primary tourist hub, is filled with shops selling high-quality trekking equipment and unique souvenirs. Keep in mind that the Nepalese market culture is quite different from Western standards don't forget to friendly haggle for a discount!

Dining: For lunch and dinner, you will find an array of excellent restaurants offering diverse international and local menus to suit every palate.

After breakfast at hotel, you can vsit until lunch time. Afternoon your guide will pick you up from your hotel drive to airport for flight to Nepalgunj.

After your afternoon flight to Nepalgunj, the hotel vehicle will be waiting for you at the airport. You will be driven to Hotel Siddhartha, where you'll enjoy a welcome drink at reception before checking into your room.

Once you’ve refreshed, we will gather at the hotel restaurant for dinner. We recommend an early night bed, as we have an early morning drive back to the airport for your flight to Juphal (Dolpa) tomorrow.

After breakfast easy trek pass through pine forest, lunch at Chhepka trek continue follow the river to Reanji for o/n tented camp.

After breakfast easy trek follow the bank of river lunch at national park check post, gradual climb to Phoksundo Ringmo village for o/n tented camp. Phoksumdo is really beautiful place with the view of crystal blue lake and mountains. 

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp.  Approx. 6 to 7 hours.

After breakfast, trek along the lake lunch stop at the end of the lake at pine forest. Trek continues to valley for overnight camp 6 to 7 hours trek. Good camp site.

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast gradually climbs, you may feel high altitude, dry and thin air, walk slowly and drink enough to keep your power. Lunch stop on the way o/n camp below the Nangda pass. Good campsite with a beautiful view of mountains and valleys.

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 6 to 7 hours.

After breakfast climb up to Nangda la pass 5,350m. trek pass through grassy land, pack lunch below the pass, trek continues easy but long walk to Shey Gompa.  7 to 8 hours trek.

After breakfast, visit Tsakhang monastery back to Camp for lunch. Explore around Shey Gompa. It is not allowed.look inside the monastery. 

Afternoon take hot shower and just relax at your camp.

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 2 hours.

After breakfast easy trek, pass through a small pass with prayer flags lunch on the way, overnight camp at Namgong monastery.

  Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast, easy trek through fields, lunch and  together at Saldang village. After lunch visit around the village.

From Saldang another trek route from Bejar to Mugu along the Karnali river valley.

  Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp.   Approx. 3 to 4 hours.

After breakfast, easy trek to Khoma village for lunch, trek continues to cross the bridge at Karnali river overnight camp at Shimen village.From Simen village there is a local trade route between Tibet and Nepal but not officially.

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp.   Approx. 6 to 7 hours.

After breakfast follow Panjyang khota stop lunch on the way, trek continue pass through Tinje village cross the bridge follow another valley overnight camp at grassy valley. No more villages, no more children and noise, a beautiful campsite.
From Tinje village there is another trekking route for the upper Mustang region.

  Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp. Approx. 6 to 7 hours.

After breakfast trek pass through grassy valley lunch on the way, gradual climb overnight camp below Charka pass. Very quiet and beautiful campsite, sometime you can see group of wild blue sheeps.

After breakfast gradually climb to charka pass 5,035m. after pass easy trek stop for lunch, trek continue to Charka village overnight camp near village.

After breakfast across the river (sometime without bridge) trek pass through a wide valley, stop lunch on the way, trek continue o/n camp below Sangda pass. Good camp site.

After breakfast trek to Sangda pass 5,123m. from pass you can see spectacular view of Annapurna Himalayan range, descend for lunch, o/n camp at summer Sangda village

After breakfast gradual descend lunch on the way overnight camp at winter Sangda village, very beautiful campsite.

After breakfast easy trek through small pass, from this pass you can see very clear view of Nilgiri, Tilicho peak, Yak kawa, Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri and the view of Kaligandaki vally’s Kagbeni, Muktinath region as well, overnight camp at Dagarjung village.

 Breakfast + lunch + dinner with hot drinks.  Tented camp.  Approx. 5 to 6 hours.

After breakfast trek to Jomsom for lunch and overnight Hotel accommodation together. at Jomsom airport.

After dinner Tips for trekking staff, trek successful gathering parties with staff and team members. Tomorrow the early morning crew will drive back to Kathmandu.   Complete the trek.

The flight: From Jomsom morning flight to Pokhara, hotel's vehicle waiting for you. Drive to 3-star hotel for accommodation. Welcome drinks at reception, check-in room. After short rest enjoy luch as your choice at Lake side.

The Annapurna Cable Car Experience: Take a smooth, 7-minute ride on the modern Annapurna Cable Car. This scenic journey glides above the lush hills, whisking you quickly from the lakeside area up to the Sarangkot Viewpoint.

Panoramic Views: From the observation tower at the top, you will be treated to a spectacular, 360-degree view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, as well as Mount Manaslu and several other towering Himalayan peaks from a unique perspective.

Dining with a View: You can choose to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the hilltop restaurant, surrounded by one of the most beautiful mountain panoramas in the world.

Evening: Enjoy a final farewell dinner at a lakeside restaurant with live music, reflecting on your incredible journey to the Annapurna circuit.

Morning Departure: After your final breakfast in Pokhara, you will begin the drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus.

The Journey: Travel by comfortable tourist bus for the 200 km journey. The route follows the scenic Trisuli River, offering views of terraced fields and rural Nepali life.

Lunch: A scheduled stop for lunch at a riverside restaurant along the highway.

Arrival & Welcome: Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink at the reception during the check-in process.

Evening: The evening is yours to enjoy. You may choose any of the city's many excellent restaurants for your night after trek in Nepal.
